Right guys I feel kinda stupid here, I striped my engine a couple of years ago while I was restoring the car. I am at the stage where I am ready to rebuild the engine but I have come across a problem. I marked the conrods when I removed them but cant remember which side I marked them for camshaft side or other. My question is the notch which the shell bearing fits into which side of the engine does this go to or does it mater.

Thanks in advance.

you'll probably hear both ways, but I've always put them towards the back, my theory being that on the power stroke the shell is driven towards the stop rather than the wedge. I think I have that the right way around:scratch:

Now lets here that the most reliable cars run the other way around:cry:

just make sure the ring gaps are on the cam side:)

From the factory the notches on the con rods that the bearings locate into face the manifolds eg the rear of the engine and the arrows on the pistons all point towards the flywheel.....that said, the rods are symmetrical so will work either way round. I'm sure I've read of people having the directional arrows on the pistons the other way round with no issues. Main thing is the con rods have their correct cap and haven been mixed up :)

ring gaps at 270 degrees opposite each other and not in line with the gudgeon pin.

i cant remember but is there a pin hole on the big end of the rod? if there is that will go on the offset side
