A friend is having problems with her BMW. Its not reving passed 2000rpm. I havent looked at it yet but wanted to bounce a few ideas i have off other people.

I am presuming its an ignition fault, so going to start at the plugs and work back replacing them, HT leads, dizzy rotar arm (If its not wasted spark) then the coil

Is there anything else i should be looking at? Any known faults on these cars? Cheers Chris

What are the symptons when it doesn't rev past 2k revs? Spluttery, popping, dying out? Could be fuel related.

Apparently it is very jerky around the 2k mark and needs to be forced to rev any further, i.e. kick down a gear and boot the living pants out of it. I'll get a better idea when i drive it i think! HT leads at nights a good plan!

I know that they suffer from split air feed pipes and when revved.. the engine moves so much it open up the split and runs like plop, i've noticed this on a few ole 318's etc

Feckedy doo dar, I think mine's developed the same problem now

Last night whislt coming home from the gym my car just bogs down, at around the same RPM as yours! I had to rev the feck out of it to get to pick up again, it's happened before, almost a year ago now but now it's suddenly come back to haunt me! I've been having an issue with white steam coming out of my exhaust for a while now though so I'm betting it's to do with this, which leads me to think that maybe a hose, or perhaps a couple of hoses, are split... I would have a look but I'm off on my hols today and I literally cannot be fecked to get dirty and frustrated before I leave :coffee:

Did you manage to find the problem that was causing your mate's car to do this? Mine hasn't reappeared yet but I can feel it coming on sometimes, like a long awaited poo about to rear its ugly head...
