Hi

Need some expert advice or someone who got experiences of buying cars from Europe and exporting them to UK?

I am about to buy r5 EBS cab from Holland and the seller make enquiry about export rule on cars for me so he emailed it to me, see below (I could not make sense or thinking as we are member of EU, free trade or something?)

"I informed about export a car. We have the following rules in the Netherlands: When you export a car you have to deliver at the office of the RDW the licence plates of the car, together with the papers, belonging to the car. RDW means RijksDienstWegverkeer, that is an official institute of the government for motorised vehicles. That is possible every day of the week, excluding Saturday and Sunday. That means that after the delivery of the Dutch belongings the car is without Dutch identity and you have to take care of a license plate or something else."

Can anyone help?

Ta in advance

This what's I thought but according to Dutch's export rule, similar to Italian's on export rule, they taken off car registration plates off new owner's car if taking it out of their country of origin to abroad, meaning no number plates on car I am hoping to drive back to UK from Holland?

Other option is to hire car transporter trailer to attach to my Ford Galaxy but mean buying new tow bar!:(

Don't know for export from NL but when i wish to import a car i can buy a temporarely plate and insurance on vin number so i'm able to drive the car back.

This is according to european regulations so i'd reckon you could get one and then drive it back to the uk.

However as the plates in the uk stay with the car it's possible to request for exclusion of tax for a few weeks so the car could be driven back on UK plates.

Download form inf106 from direct.gov. ( www.direct.gov.uk/importingacar ).
There maybe more info there.

From when I looked into it with Jap cars -

The plate is taken off at source
You book in with VOSA for new plates and tell them you are transporting
They issue you with temp reg plates ( similar to a trade plate )
You goto the VOSA center and it passes you get new plate etc.
