In an ideal world for other leaner alloys.

I've bought some williams steels that are 7" wide and thought a bit more width would be good. I can get 205/45 - but for cheaps i can get 205/50.
Don't think i can even get rubber thats 225/45/15 - and even then i'm not sure the arches would love it.

Ours the profile is a percentage of the width so a 205/50 will be taller than a 195/50 and they will rub as it is.

Not this again ;)

195/50/15 looks gash on GTTs as it is, in comparison to 195/45/15. 205/50/15 will have an ever taller side wall.

195/45 - 87.8 mm
195/50 - 97.5 mm
205/50 - 102.5mm

That is assuming I have done my sums correctly whereby side wall height is a % of width and width is measured in mm. These are significant aesthetic differences.

Incidentally, 205/45 comes out at 92.25mm, so maybe an option but I doubt the extra money is worth it.

If you have the 7" wide Clio steels, they are off the Williams AFAIK and would be the ones I'd really want too. The 16v's spare steel wheels are 6.5" wide. The extra width really makes a difference in my opinion.

So 195/45 are the correct choice?? I've just got some ronal turbo alloys and was about to ask the same question.

My current 17 inch alloys are too hard and I'm hoping more air in the tyre will make for a smoother ride. Is the only problem the scrubbing on full lock? As I have already put blockers on the shaft to reduce my turning circle with my 17 inch wheels.

195/45 for 15's.
Limited choice of availability and I ended up going with Toyo T1R's which seem to be a good all rounder.

Look way better than the previous 195/50's and a better ride.

Should be able to soften my suspension up a little too now as it was set quite hard to help eliminate rubbing

I run advan ad08 yokos 205/55/15

They scrub on full lock and are soon to be rolled.

It's less the tyre and more the wheel dimensions and offset that determine whether there is rubbing at the front and all the former things plus ride height that determine rubbing at the back.

I've never known anyone report rubbing on 195/45/15's on any wheel with the right offset on a GTT, back or front.

Also, surely putting more air in the tyres on car that already has a harsh ride will do nothing but make it even more so. More air means a more solid tyre and therefore less forgiving.
