getting rid of my van as I will no longer need it soon and just wanting some ideas for my new daily work mobile, it will be our second car, and only used for going to and from work, and the occasional trip to shop.

I want something with a fair bit of poke, but pretty economical 30 mpg+ as I will be doing around 200 - 250 miles a week on mainly A roads or motorway,

Ideally only looking to spend around 3k, but might push it to 5k tops for something newish that would hold its value well,

been looking at clio 197, not driven one but think they look a bit sparse inside, and depreciate like a ..Renault?

also looked at newer shape 54 plate golf gti, look pretty good, should hold value

ideas please:)

does not compute. :D
do you pay for your own fuel? why on earth wouldn't you want something that saves you moolah on a day to day basis?
I started a similar thread recently, and for me it was between a Golf TDI or a Megane coupe DCi

you sound like my wife!!:wasntme:

don't really fancy another oil burner, not had a petrol car for at least 5 years, (with exception to 5,and that hasn't been driven in 3 years anyway!) and just fancy a change :)

The difference between a petrol doing 30-35 mpg and a diesel doing 45-50mpg is about £10, if I do about 200 miles, so its not going to break the bank

Our main car is a diesel so I can use that for work to save a few quid when the missus isn't working anyway

Problem with Clio's is the top gear ratio. The engine revs faaaaaaaaar to high for constant motorway (IMO). Like, pushing toward 4k at 80-85 arnt they?

Saab 9-3 aero 2.0t 210 hp.

Plenty of poke for what you want, plenty of room and equipment and cheap as chips.

I just picked one up as my daily recently and in the right colour (black), they are still (for me at least) pleasing to the eye.

£900 purchase and £20 a week in fuel to and from work..... I'm happy with that !

For what I use mine for its ideal.

Reliable cheap and nippy enough.

Have a drive of one and see what you think

I work for a scrap yard and the guy we got it from was scrapping it as he just bought a new car !

1 owner from new with only 74k on the clock. Said to my boss I'd buy it if it passed its mot which it did..... I literally gave it a wash filled it up with petrol and haven't looked back since.

We'll chuffed with it.
