loud starter motor [Archive]

ive changes my starter motor like twice in 6 month as its so dam loud can any one help me is it a cheep starter or somthing else?? ive noticed my flyweel teeth are getting hurt :(

What do you mean by loud ????? Does it make your ears bleed ??? Or does it make a horrible griding / not normal noise ??????

have you got the dowel in the correct locating possition

Also what motor is it ?? Standard or horrid laguna "uprated" one ???

If your flywheel teeth are getting mullered then something isnt right, it may not be engaging properly, i read somewhere recently that uprated starters had a different amount of teeth to the standard item which could cause a problem ?????????

lol it sounds like a tractor starting yeah kinda like a loud grinding diesel sound :(

its a standard one but i had a uprated one on b4 for like 2 days but as it was loud o swapped it back for a original

There's a locating dowel that sits in the gearbox/starter, to locate it, that's why the starter needs a knock to dislodge it from the gearbox.

Mine is very loud too - its a bosch and is not faulty. I didn't have the dowell in there and had to have one may up by someone who lives nearby. Its a lot quieter now but still not like the standard one.

When you removed the old one you probably removed teh dowell with it - thats what we did. Get someone with a lathe to make you one.

Should be a circular little metal thing that fits into the space given in the starter that goes into the locating hole on the starter and into the block........Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong anybody :laugh:

great yeah i remember now i did see something drop out when removed the starter ooooops!!! wont suppose anyone has one?? spare or knows anywere i can get a dowel from??? would love my car not to sound like a wierd tractor!!:sad2:
