View Full Version : C1j oil filter obsolete?

Brigsy
27-08-2013, 15:02
Just been to my local motor factors and fram have discontinued the filter they made that was specifically for the c1j. The part number has been superseded for a different filter which isn't the right one.

Has anybody bought a genuine oil filter lately? Are they still available?

If not does anybody know of another brand that make a filter that is the same size and style as the o.e oil filter? I don't want to use any old filter as last time i tried it dropped my oil pressure by about 15lbs and cost a turbo..

Oh well problem solved. I heard that renault had discontinued them?

If all else fails a lawnmower or motorbike oil filter would probably do the job

Dale, any chance of the Club shop stocking the (old/current) Fram filters?

Bigfoot
27-08-2013, 16:26
I have put a post up in the committee forum about what can be done stock wise and how I can go about it, but if all good I can stock these in the club shop, they will be around £3.50 plus delivery at the £2.50 delivery charge. Would want to put service kits together rather than just putting the oil filter in place though. But will wait to see what they come back with.

Dale that sounds ace. I got a fram filter the other day was exactly the same as the genuine one same height width and has the 1bway valve etc...

The motorfactors i use are usually pretty good Dale so not sure whats going on there. They usually keep one in stock for me, apparently im the only person who buys it:D they have got one coming for me tomorrow.

This is all definitely food for thought though, one day service parts for these will be hard to come by, and might not be that far in the future? I definitely know of a lawnmower filter that is about the same though:laugh:

I believed that the purflux was the oe one just that it doesnt come in renault box from dealers, however its identical to renault filter other than slight markings. GSF didnt seem to have many purflux lately

Sparkie

there is about 6 on the shelf at gsf brum. - 2 of those are not purflux.
you are correct - purflux are OE manufacturers for the renault 5's

Spoke to Renault today and have confirmed the old number is obsolete.

But it superceeds to a new number which also fits another renault so fear not you can still get renault filters :agree:

When I changed my 172 filter its looks pretty close, IF I had more time I would have mike'd it up to check but looks spot on..

not researched this yet

Mr Raider
03-09-2013, 12:15
The 172 filters are slightly taller, although reckon they would fit otherwise. Not sure that as its bigger there possibly could be a small difference in oil pressure?! :coffee:

Brigsy
03-09-2013, 15:41
Bigger oil filter is a recipe for dropping the oil pressure a few lbs. Almost any filter will screw on, just need to find one similar size as and when the supply runs out?

James5
03-09-2013, 16:37
Clio 172 / 182 OE purflex filter fits :agree: it's slightly larger radius only remember using a spare one after going from f4r back to C1j and it fitted the rubber seal just fits onto the C1j mating face, height wise was about the same as C1J OE filter. Oil pressure wise was fine:agree:

This isn't good news :crap:

When we had an '03 Megane 1.6 I remember the oil filter looking exactly the same as my GTT one, so much so I had to mark the boxes to avoid mixing them up. It might be worth buying one to trial fit?

Hi guys, been following this thread so I though I had better check out as I don't have any filters. Checked with my local Renault dealer, no longer available, so I then went to the motor factor, I bought 4 Mahle filters about £6.50 each I also got a purflux about £9.50.

Mr Raider

I have heard Euro car parts stock purflux, looked at a mahle filter lastnight and compared to oe its smaller in diameter and taller

That particular one looks too big. However i have had a bosch oil filter that was exactly the right size for a gtt many years ago.

The payen gaskets are about the same as the mellior gasket if anybody is struggling for a headset?

Mr Raider

When I was in GSF panic buying 3 purflux oil filters, I asked about the mellior/corteco head gasket set, R11402, there are a few still kicking about £45+ vat, one of these is on my list for the spare stash! lol

what all the panic guying about, my local motor factors tells me he can get all the mahle filters I want and he can also get the purflux filters. I have just bought 4 mahle and 1 purflux. I was going to use the mahle for run in purpose and then change to the purflux.
