Right, I've posted up 4 x mxv tyres that came from a cup car, they were I was told wet tyres.

And it was my understanding that they are not road legal.

I've included in my add that I wouldn't use them due to age and that they would be ideal for a show car.

This is the add

http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=231026836819&index=3&nav=SELLING&nid=51205713819

This is an email I just got.

Dear kaledspy,

Hi mate this listing is miss leading they were never meant for track use as they are road tyres also there is no tread mm of how much is left on each tyre postage is only around £10/12 check parcels2go.com then you may well sell them a whole lot easier hope this helps chris

The message is from Raider GTT remember! If you think they are Coupe MXV then you will have to emphasise the fact that they are different to normal MXV which is what he thinks they are as he wouldn't know his ar*e from his elbow.

03-08-2013, 16:44
I'm sure the word coupe doesn't appear on the standard MXV's.

I can't see anyone being pulled over with these on and the police being able to tell though, even the club needs to go and check to be sure :wasntme:

Definitely different to normal MXV, I guess that they have a different/stickier formulation to the normal ones.

I justed looked in my garage, I have a set of MXV's and also a coupe MXV, and to me they look exactly the same, tread pattern is the same even all the writing is the same on the side wall, the only difference I can see is that it says coupe after MXV, so what is the difference?

Sparkie

they were probably made with a softer compound, but just used the same moulds.

The new Bill J

Correct! The MXV Coupes were a softer compound to the 'normal' MXV's, and were used as wets in the Renault 5 elf Turbo Cup series. They can be used on the road, but due to being a softer compound they won't last as long.

Get W4nkergtt to collect them, and throw them at him, knocking him out. Then take them back and when he comes round tell him where to go :D

I can't believe these aren't being snapped up. 4 x road legal, stickier versions of the original MXVs with decent tread for around £25 a tyre? I don't get it.

Lol CC. If it was still within its use-by date, yes, yes I wound :uhhuh:

I don't get this tyres being too old stuff tbh. On my old ph1 I had five original tyres. I mean 55k use, 20yrs on the road. Four were ok for everyday use, one had a bulge in the side wall, which I ditched obviously. JRP's look in better nick.

As the manufacturer states to those who want to use them; if they aren't cracked or crazed they will be fine.

And for those that want to show them, they are perfect.

I've got a set of MXV Coupes, and they're so hard now they're like bricks! I couldn't imagine them offering any sort of grip! :scared:

If I were to think about using them to drive on, I'd absolutely drench them in tyre softener first!

Bill, what we have is the difference between what I experienced and what you imagine.

As I said on the other thread, anyone looking to drive their GTT to the max needs to look for other tyres. If you're not going mad on the road (which you shouldn't in any case), or going on track, then should be ok to use IMO.

You haven't experienced the tyres that I've got. Which coincidentally are from the same batch as the ones Jon has sold. I would not like to drive them to the shops. They are rock solid - You can barely move the rubber tread around at all, and you can't make the slightest of indents with a thumb nail. They might come to life a bit after a heat cycle or two, who knows?

I wish I had a car that I could fit them to now to try out (in a quiet place), just out of curiosity :D

The point I was making was that I actually found out that mine were ok. You're yet to try yours. So I may have been in a better position on the subject. Neither of us have used Jon's though, so the bottom line is that we can only suppose from our respective armchairs. :D

Possibly the softer 'Coupe' tyres go off and the harder road tyres last for two decades?
