stupid qustion but - does anybody know what the sensor on the inside of the right pipe is for and is it needed??

You talking about the overboost sensor which goes from turbo to intercooler?

its seems to be set into the right side of the top of the intercooler ??

standard intercooler? you talking about the stat which controls the flap in the intercooler?

Like a normal stat, opens up when it reaches a set temperature which causes air to flow through the intercooler rather than by passing it. As for if its needed, technically it should help prevent carb freeze but most people remove it. Which involves using a bolt to secure the flap in place to allow it to go through, or just get an alloy intercooler.

Cant answer last one as I haven't got one.
