Hi, what is the yellow/ white strip of light for, above the oil gauge ???
I have been trying to get it to work with the gauges, I guess I'm wrong.
What's it for, and when should it be on?? And more to the point, does anyone know where I can get a PDF of the phase 1 user manual(not Haynes, the owners handbook)? Can't find one anywhere.

I had never seen the lights before. Hooked up a new oil pressure sender and it came on. I thought it was supposed to be on all the time. Looking on YouTube, the lights not on while other people are driving.

Originally, when everything worked, when you turn the ignition on that strip of light comes on and the oil guage needle will climb up the guage to show how much oil is in the sump.
When the car is started the strip of light goes out, the needle drops then climbs again to show oil pressure. Hope this helps.

I do like that, looks great, but I don't think I'd want to wait for windows to boot up every time I start the car! Xp based lol. Great idea though.

Any chance of a link to the owners handbook? Must be out of copyright / etc by now, surely?

That is absolutely mint. It only took about 30 seconds to boot up, you'd soon get used to that.

What doesn't make any sense is that this was done for a bog standard 5 :D

Agreed. It's an excellent display of functionality, but it would be sweet if you could change between dash layout styles and colours and include some recall features such as max rpm, boost etc.

It obviously must a computer box hiding somewhere?

It's a prototype, so there is a tower pc in the boot

If you click on the English icon in the top right of his web page all is explained.

"The project in a few words...

This project aims to replace the dashboard of a car by an LCD display system. Initially with the standard characteristics of a "traditional" dashboard : speed, distance, rpm, indicators, etc...

In a second time, the question is to add comfort functionalities like rear cam, skinability, MP3 player, GPS navigation, special contextual modes, etc..."

Looks like he has it all in hand Woz :) Since this looks like bespoke s/w, he'll be able to code whatever he likes I guess...

Facebooked him this morning. He has no plans to release or develop it further (time and money). Shame as it looked real good and best of all although all electronic he made it look similar to the original. Liked the rev counter needle changing colour but that's what you can do if its all software driven.

Who knows perhaps if enough interest he might look into it.
