View Full Version : Engine Bonnet Matting what's it for?

Can someone please explain its purpose. It seems people are concerned about over heating and sticking insulation under the bonnet doesn't make any sense. I have an old bonnet with it in which I was looking at transferring to my project but if its not needed then there's no point.

Cool. Are the studs easy to remove or are they likely to break on removal?
Also there to stop the bonnet distorting from heat :)
Easy to remove and put back in. More than likely can get them new if need be.

I never found any warping of the bonnet or damage to the paint when removing the bonnet matt, and I ran all my GTT's like this for years. I had Tungy, White and Silver and none showed anything of any concern. It does allow the underside to get a lot dirtier than it would of course.

Makes no difference in my experiences. I can safely say ive had the manifold/turbo/downpipe glowing on the van loads of times with no sound deadening and the paint is fine:D
The sound deadening is to try and make the ohv pushrod lump sound better
Well if anyone has a good condition matting going spare for my OE restore, ill gladly buy it :-)
Whilst I took mine out to improve the dissipation of heat from the engine bay and to reduce the likelihood of an under-bonnet fire, when fitted, it really does reduce noise from the engine, both in the cabin and from standing by the car. :agree:

Never had a problem, even in Australia at 45 deg C ambient temps.
