First post!

Hello eveyone ive just joined so this is my first thread, ive just brought a Cylinder head for my phase 2 R5 and the valve seats look different to the cylinder head ive just removed. I ordered some new oil stem valve seals that said they fit a Phase 1 and phase 2 head but they dont fit:confused: After researching I think i have brought a Phase 1 Head, ive heard some volvo oil stem valves might fit but which ones ? Ive also heard that some people dont even use them is this true or will i have smoke bellowing out of my exhaust any help would be much appreciated thanks. Really want to get to Santa pod for Saturday but my five is in a million pieces  cheers.

hi there
welcome to the club phase 1 and phase 2 are the same, the head you bought might had head work done to the seats for uprated valve springs, you can run the engine without valve stems seals if your valves guides are good, most people you run a lot of boost don't run stem seals.

Dont fit any valve stem oil seals mate, they will only end up in the sump.

I beleive the Ph1 heads didn't have stem seals on as standard. As said, no real need to fit them.

Ye I also thought the Phase 1's didn't have them either..

However I also heard that the raider versions run double stem seals :D

32 stem seals in total :crap: don't fancy changing mine then, the Raider is 16v aren't they

If you worried about lifting, some people fit the red top valve stem seals which have a better hold.

I got asked if my white phase 1 was a raider at the petrol station on Sunday! Ha:scratch: I told him yeah its got a special edition 2ltr engine only found on the raider model !!!

Also I thought the valve seats were different on the phase 1's:confused:

If you have decided not to run them make sure that the guides aren't worn as it'll smoke
