I think my thermostat is kaput. Will removing it ruin my life ?

Once removed I will check it in hot water but is it needed.

Your car will take a lot longer to warm up, and it wont keep it at the right temperature on cold days. they are not expensive just to put a new one in.

I'd say yes, it is needed, you risk damaging the engine without it if the water gets too cool

New and low temp

And why low temp?? these cars are designed to run at a set temperature, if you go for a low temp your engine will be running cooler than it should.

Exactly, mr Renault designed them to run at a set temp... Not lower... An it's not like we have a very hot climate....

I find it helped temperature stay lower at full throttle for prolonged motorway driving. I ran low temp fan switch too. Have done since I got it in 96 . Got fed up of having to back off to cool down.
Sent it in to Renault to be checked just incase but a nice technician guy who had one told me they all do it and to run low temp so I did.

New standard stat is fine. You will only need a low temp if your cooling system has issues.

Well it defiantly has issues. Since sangliers the temps been getting higher before fan kicks in with the red light on (I put this down to New clocks and perhaps the dial being set differen and it just looking like it's high when it isn't. t) . And the header tank level goes up and down. Sometimes it will seem full then next time I look it will be low then back again

Red light ouch. Do you get bubbles in expansion tank ?

No I don't. As I say I think it might be the gauge

I'd try stat first but I'd also think about replacing temp sensor in rad for fan. For piece of mind I'd change temp sensor on water pump too.
Before it creates more serious problems like cracked head or liners if it is running that hot.
Check for leaks. Inlet manifold hosetales is a common one that's hard to see.
Let us know how you get on.

i run standard thermostat so it runs at correct running temp

But i do run a low temp rad fan switch, each to there own. Only reason being is when i come to a stop in traffic its just peace of mind it kicks in slightly earlier

Just to clarify. The bulb goes the pump side right?
