strange problems

first off ive been having trouble with power going to starter i think just turn the key and complet dead just lights dim on dash ? and after taking car for a run this afternoon to see what afrs was reading foot down in 4th gear was 12.8 pulled up stoped car then wouldent start it turned over a few times but wouldent keep fireing i had my foot to the floor and it would hardley tick over then die....then started complet dead again iam baffled as where to start ive read a few things on here and checked them but still nothing :cry::confused::eek:

my advice would be to get the bbq lit and some beers in the fridge and let some well experienced members pop round for a bit of a get together and take a look for you :)

Is the starter motor sticking (solenoid) and making a clunk noise and dimming dash lights? mine does this, heard could be bad earth or wiring to the starter.

The other problem sounds carb related, is the idle jet blocked? has it been rebuild/cleaned recently? :)

ive put a new starter on it the other week i dont think theres any clicking but the dash lights go dim ? also not sure about whats been done to carb as ive not took it off or anythink to have a look

Sounds like a bad earth.

The car probably wont restart due to you either flooding it ( mashing the pedal ) or the fuel evaporating. You have to learn the nack to getting them started.

Mine is 3 full pedal pushes then feathered throttle.

no when it did try and start it fired up then died like it was running on 1 cylinder or sommot

Fuel pump relay or possibly fuel pump has failed, or you have ran out of fuel.

Lack of starter is knackered wiring, do the 4 pin relay mod

As for the engine not firing up - check for spark and fuel, basics first

you dont think it could be the ignition switch at all ? as the key is stuck in it and i carnt seem to get it out ?

I would start with the fuel pump first.

still having probs checked a few wires and relays today but got nothing to starter motor no clicking just dash lights dim ???:confused:

pulling my hair out :eek: checked starter connections charged battery up and used another checked wiring + relays and still nothing to starter no click click or anything some body on here must be able to help me get her going again ????

Have you tried bypassing realay by aei? . Have you got a multimetre

if the lights are dim with a fully charge battery id be checking for a bad earth. make your own earth using a jump lead...

yep ive done that mate looked and seached boards as well tryed a few trick but nothing puzzled me :confused::confused::confused:

is that the relay at the aei with yellow wires i swaped these around with the the one at passenger head light

If your fuel pump is running when you crank, then you can rule out Aei module and that relay next to it + crank sensor. If you have a spark then the electric system is ok on that side of things.

i dont think i can here fuel pump ifact i carnt here anything no buzzing no clicking not a thing as for spark it wont turn over so carnt check that

Oh yea :ashamed: error... Lol. Ok when you fix the starter listen for the fuel pump :D

The starter motor had Sh%t itself :crap: Kev's going to bolt another 1 on and see what happens.

Tools used to trace fault :

1 x multimeter
1 x Hammer :D for that special solenoid/starter tap :cool:

update on car put new starter motor on today that sorted that prob out but tryed starting it and no good it fired up a little but just pup pup pup and died....

Just tryed starting car and chug chug chug and die ? I've checked fuel and that's coming thro and seems there's a spark at plugs so Iam now back to being baffled again :cry:

yh i checked plugs for spark mate not sure how strong the spark should be but dint seen very strong ? im pointing my finger at the aei at the min just wondering if its got owt to do with the rev limiter ive fitted ? could it of took the aei out damaged it or anything like that ?

Try a sparkplug on the king lead see if its a different spark.

Remove the limiter for now - just to rule it out and try again. If it works then you have some supect wiring !

well problem was down to rev limiter stopping car from starting does anyone know why this as hapened do revlimiters reset them selfs or you lot think its blew ?

Faulty wiring (such as a damaged positive wire earthing on the chassis) would cause a signal being sent to the limiter via the earth.

Did you remove all of the lmiter wires, or disconnect one at a time and attempt to start?
