pops and bangs ? can this happen if theres a leek in intercooler or anything else ? just dont feel right after doing a motorway run at 100+mph for 15 mins was ok till then

Normally a sign of something running lean Kev. I would be looking at manifold , or carb. There will be an air leak around there.
Start the car up - get some wd40 and spray small amounts around the joins. If the engine revs go up you have found your leak.
Check for air leaks in the vacuums pipe to the aei. I uses to get excessive popping and banging when it leaked due to the aei not seeing the correct vacuums reading so adding the wrong amount of ignition timing.
If it's only happened since fitting the exhaust I'd be checking there's no leaks at any of the joints.....

When I had my sidey on it would pop and bang on the overrun
Afrs were 16/18 when it happened
I loved it when I fitted the scorpion system it cured it
May have to put the sidey back on
