View Full Version : std or not
Hi guys, whats your thoughts. I have my 5 near back to oe ,starting to build the engine soon but dont know if I should build a std engine or one with a bit of performance. I have a 285 cam and vernier pully I was thinking of using this and a T2 /T25 turbo what you think.
All comments welcome. Cheers.

I personally wouldn't put a 285 in on a T2/25

I had a T2/T25 hybrid with a 285 piper cam... Best engine I ever had... Pulled well, managed 14.1 at 99mph at pod (could have got 13s), a great set up, pulled well, very little lag and lows to be revved...
Thanks guys, good to get your advice. I don't have a clue about these engines. What do you recommend for a bit more power not looking for anything wild.
My experience t25 are a great road turbo at 18 psi

I think you should go standard and then sell me the cam and pulley:D

270 cam will suit it better, or go full t25 with 285
What the lag like with the T25

what are you used to?
a full t25 will be laggy and power quiete high up rpm with the 285cam. Or if your prepaired to shell out for a rollerbearing t25 might be less laggy.
t28/.49 or full t25 and 285 = beast, but power high up rpm
t2/t25 hybrid and 270 cam = fast road sort of power, less lag but will still make you smile

Going by this statement you dont need a t25 or a 285 cam.:agree:
When I read std or not I was expecting a picture of a rash.... :wasntme:
The last time I had a 5 was in 1989 I bought new and kept it std.
Cheers guys, interesting stuff after what I have read I will go for the 270 and T2/T25. Do I need the vernier pulley for the 270 cam ? if not 285 cam and pulley for sale.
