i think it seals gearbox oil in too. so check that rubber o ring isnt split. and there should be a clip to hold it in place.. i bent mine so it held the sensor in tighter, they seem to push out with age and loose speedo signal.

the clip tony is on about is a metal fork like bracket that bolts to the gearbox and holds the sensor in the hole. its down below the turbo you may struggle to find it if you dont know what you are looking for.
