I have had my megane a year and a bit now.

Its had 3 maps , 2 radiators , 1 uprated intercooler , one decat pipe ( 3 inch work of art - not often you can say that . ) center box chop, and a panel filter

Started off with a generic map - 230.1 bhp and 250ft ib running at <10AFR on WOT. Dangerous. This was with the panel filter and center box chop

Had Paul @ RS Tuning remap it and got 253.9 and 275ft ib. I swore this was the end of my tuning on the R26

I then had my injectors ultrasonically cleaned, installed a aftermarket intercooler. I needed a service , and belt change ( did it a year early for peace of mind ) and decided to get a 3 inch decat installed at the same time. This would require a further remap to optimise the decat.

I requested if Paul could map in pops , bangs and flames. He wasnt sure - but to his credit spent a fair while mapping and tweaking. It pushed comfortably over 300ftib but common knowledge is the rods are weak and will banana. It has been pegged to 300ftib now.

End result , 273.2 BHP and 300ibft(capped) with a near verticle torque curve low down.

I now need a new clutch ( a helix SMF is going in if anyone has any helix contacts ? ) and new eardrums. It sounds much , much better in the flesh , and the pops / bangs are felts as well as heard !

Went through two rolls of the stuff ! Cost me a fortune.

If I bring it to Blyton , you will hear and feel its a bit more than a mild pop and bang ..

Had two drunk lads dive into a bus shelter. Had several padding ton hard stares mind.

If I drive it <3500rpm no bangs or flames.

Andy,

Is your clutch now slipping or id there more left in it? The helix kiy is silly money. Im using a grsnd scenic cover with an AP plate. Should be good for 370ft/lb.

Not 100% sure what is failing TBH.
The helix kit is around a grand fitted.

What do you know that I dont ?

How can I stop my clutch slipping when giving it death , and is it worth doing over the helix kit ?

Matt Cole

Personally I think the helix kit is a rip off. A grand for 380ftlb? I would look for an r26.r solid flywheel and cover and grt htechcraft to obtain a 6 puk 240mm paddle plate. That should see you through until you want more power.

r26r kit is DMF tho ?

Bollocks to that, that's twin/triple plate money

Yes it is I was talking about an aftermarket flywheel.

Do you have any part numbers / places to buy from ? You had any issues with lights coming on?

Do you fit?

So you're not buying steel rods then?

Are you sure?

Not curious what the uncapped torque figure would be?

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

Pops an bangs sound sweet also love the flames! Sounds like a rally car :smokin:

Not sure yet.

Could sell the five and our ate the rods and pins, then get a 3071 and larger injectors...

Spoken to Paul @ RS Tuning and Mark @ Bolsover. Both agree that SMF with a helix setup is the way to go.

The grand scenic option is basically a stronger plate ( but not that strong ! ) with a DMF that will wear again in due course.

Think I might have to take one for the team. Going to sting abit after I have all belts changed , service , decat , map tweak ...

Andy,

I've done many hours research on this! Agreed on the DMF you don't want one of them.

Havent fitted it yet mate. If you can hang on for a few months I'll report back. In the mean time I would try and bag yourself a SMF for the r26.r.

Its slipping whenever I put down more than 50% power :scared:

I think I am going to have to helix it ..

I went with the solid flywheel .r type (ktec solid version), and fitted the .r clutch. No more slipping issues.

Allthough it does sometimes put the light on like people have problems with.

Mine was mapped 2years ago before they started capping the torque, runs 280bhp and 340ft lb's area

and it flames when hot on flat out gear change

andybond

The R version is still a DMF , not a SMF

edited mate to make it more clear

Andy, as said before, imo you wont need the helix thing unless you start pushing 380ft/lb. The .R SOLID flywheel and .R clutch (grande Scenic) clutch should be a next step for you. Also the new .R LUK clutches come with a larger hydraulic slave.

**** the pretty boy tuners, they just want to hand out the back of your lass!

Link us up the cheapest price matt.

I thought/still think all single mass flywheels are aftermarket. Meganesport says standard r26.r is dmf and different clutch giving 20% more clamping force than standard?

The question is do renault do a smf on another model that will fit? And is preferably cheap:D

Best fitting the SMF before the map as you can map out the light at same time. Otherwise its £50+VAT for the light out
