r5 vs starlet turbo witch is quicker? [Archive]

my m8 just brought a mint starlet turbo will that quicker than my 5?

all depends on state of tune,boost running? + multiple other things like being able to drive properly

didnt u mention your mate had one that did something like 140mph in fourth gear?

imo the starlet is like a modernised r5gtt, performance is decent enough but still looks like a micra, seems to be the choice tho after the chavs get bored of saxos and corsas

anyways standard on standard i wouldnt think there was much difference, as for modifying them is all about who has the biggest wallet, but theres one thing a starbo can never buy, and thats the cool retro'ness of the r5 :)

i was driving it the other day and i went sideways theres a oil leak that went on the drivers tyre and got a carb prob too

in a tuned state the stalet is always going to be more powerful.
but this doesnt nessesarily mean it'll be quicker!

you have to remember the gtt c1j is an OLDskool pushrod engine and it still keeps up with todays ohv engines.

you get more power for less money from the 5 without a doubt.

its not worth trying to always be the quicker car, lets face it , you can get a scooby now for like 2.5 k, 4wd, lots of power, good solid engines, and it will beat 90% of things in its price range. just get what you enjoy and be done with it.

Its a shame because for the money a scooby makes sense, shame they have been ruined by fast and the furious esque graphics and chavs.

For example, yes. Or the saloon, not many of those about. Although apparently these's another GTB floating about in Christchurch... my mates keep having a go at me for not waving back at them :laugh:

I was in a 200bhp starlet(not glanza version) recently that had a 6speed box on and it stuggled to get traction and was impressive to about 80.Id say it could maybe manage 140 in 4th not sure though.

I bought a UK wagon a while back for £1400, sold it to a mate as it was too juicy for work & it's still going strong now with over 100k on the clock..

Some lad local to me had one and I destroyed it on a bar of boost. Even if the five was not quite as quick I would still have the five over the starlet any day of the week. NO RICE

i really dont see the appeal of starlets , they are ugly as hell, they have no heritage, they certainly are not retro cool, yes they maybe fast but lets face it compared to there jap counterparts which cost around the same they are slow, and well.. need i go on.

its the new chav mobile, the natural progression from saxos, corsas, to be honest they all have as much heritage as each other, dont get ne wrong they are a decent solid motor, but so is a toyota carina

thats a very good point :agree: with a starlet when compared to other jap cars ie 200sx, mr2t, etc you get bugger all car for your money:disagree:
just been browsing and as an example for the same money would you go for a starlet 1.4gt turbo or a soarer 2.5 twin turbo.? :laugh:

dont forget the pulsar gtir raj! u can get them for around 3k now and the standard engines are good for 300bhp

there was a lad round here who was aiming for 300bhp or was it 400bhp? cant remember but he was planning on spending 9 grand just for the engine

You can get a good 400bhp out of the stock Pulsar engines... 3rd gear might suffer with large amount of torque though. I saw one stripped clean, but I never had problems when mine was running well.
