I thinking about painting the zinc plated brackets that are dotted around the engine bay. Any advice on paint for these. I am thinking about using an etch primer then some Hammerite Metal paint but not sure if it would be suitable for the brackets that are on or close to the engine heat?

Why not just get them replated?

For the o.e look then re-plate, for paint, de-grease then zinc 182 for a primer/rust treatment then por chassis coat in matt black or what ever colour your prefer over the top, you can mix por with thinners and use it through a gun if your after a minty mint finish.

I would buy new off you mike but I need to save a few quid for all the other parts I'm going to buy :)

phil the paint option sound like the way I want to go. I think getting some colour on them will be the way forward.

If you know how many brackets in total you want to refurb, and perhaps if they are off the car - then get a price from a spray shop.

They'll sand blast them and powder coat them etc..........think i paid about £60 for the entire engine bay brackets to be done, semi gloss black!

If you consider the time itll take plus paint to do it yourself??

Might just be worth a price anyway:agree:

Could also look at having them "enameled"..had a tank strap done 3yr ago, still mint, and polishes up a treat :agree:

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

I spoke to a powder coater recently. He recomended asking for ford black as its special . Something to do with anticorosion properties. Should be getting my black bits done for free :D
The rest of the brackets I got the refurbed kit off Mike. Happy days.
