Oil pump gasket??

Hi guys just in the process of stripping down my engine and have just taken off the oil pump pick up (thing that looks like a shower head ) is it right that there is no gasket between the the pump and pick up head???

Yep no gasket bud..

Thanks odd would of expected to see a gasket between two metal surfaces. Am I right in saying that people put Vaseline in the geared part of the pump to help prime it?

Yes bud or prime it by using a seaparat modified distributor drive.. That's how I did mine and worked a treat to get the pressure back up..
