Anyone have any pics or info. Thought I had everything. I can't see how the pipe run goes past the alternator. No room. Any help would be great.

Cheers.

Between the alternator and slam panel or round the side of the alternator? They can be a very tight fit. I fitted a shorter belt on one of my old fives, helped alot.

Sy, I'll fetch a pic of my old engine bay, the pipe run is kind of similar dude...

The pipes will go over the alternator with 2 90 deg bends.

You can also reduce the crank pulley size/belt clearance by nabbing the pulley and belt off of a campus...;)

Also have a look in this guide to help out with fitment, or just an idea of installation.

There are pictures of the alternator piping and fitment, hope thats of use to you.

What a fecking 'bodge it & run' fitment :dearme: Cut here, shave there, fudge this, feck that, remove as near as damn it the front cross-member (always a bad move) without even re-strengthening it afterwards (even worse!), etc etc, ad nauseum.

Not helped by the fact that the Forge core is a pile of w8nk in the first place.

Way to go Forge Motorsport... :sad2:

I don't suppose you know what belt you fitted Timmy?

Umm not really, it was a good 5 years ago now. 1150mm?? Gawd knows. Take a GTT one into your local motor factors and try to get one slightly shorter, im sure they'll let you return it/swap it if its too long/short.

That would be good mate. Went to Halfords today and there worse than useless. Off to my local motor factors in the morning(they shut at 1pm today ) and any info would be great.

It's smaller.

Circa 1175mm rings a bell as being the length of an o.e belt.

Given up now.
Too bloody cold. The smaller alternator belt helped but I can't seem to get the pipe work to meet up with the carb top.

Yep, and as I said to you all those years ago, none of them could get hold of a 10 X 1163mm belt. Even Sir Sparkie couldn't find one after 32 days of solid hunting!

I'm now using a 1175mm. I did have a 1187mm.

Its only down the road from that goldmine of a Renault specialist shop in Luton - didnt you go there with Huge Jeans and nab some brand new OE GTT dials?

We went up there a few times to rob him of loads of exciting bits :D

I haven't been up there for a few years though. Got other things to do with my money now, like saving up for a new car, maybe

I've put this mod on hold (before I put it in the bin ). The SFS elbows I have are -

2 x 90 deg reducers
2 x 90 deg
2 x 45 deg

I also have 1 metre + of straight alloy tube. I was told this was what I needed but can't work the pipe order out. I have the shortest alt belt I could fit and there's still not enough room for a 90 deg elbow behind the alt. The BB carb top is so close to the oil filler cap I'll have to remove the pipe work to top up the oil. DAMN CAR.

Happy new year to ya'll :)

Tiny Tim
31-12-2008, 10:39
Not like you'll be putting oil in the car every week though is it

Or is it? :crap:

You want a fairly long straight piece of silicone hose from the carb plenum so as to clear and not damage the oil cap and ht leads, then some metal pipe upto the alternator. Bend over the alternator and then some more straight (length will depend on where you put the intercooler) then another silicone bend into the cooler.

As for the other side, a bend out of the turbo inlet, a piece of straight metal pipe into another bend thats attached to the other side of the cooler.

Easy as pie. Nice easy pie.

Sy5GTT
31-12-2008, 10:46
Oil in when it starts to rattle :wasntme:
I get what your saying Tim but with the reducer elbow I have it just doesn't allow an ally pipe behind the alt. It comes out underneath it. And without almost kinking it I can't get up and around the alt. The only thing I can think of is cutting brand new pipes

Tiny Tim
31-12-2008, 10:49
Simple possible solution before you go hacking up sexy new silicone then... have you got a powerflow or equivelant near you? If the cars driveable, get it down there and ask them to bend you some exhaust pipe. i've done that several times over the years with various cars. It'll cost feck all and they can get the perfect bend for you.

Sy5GTT
31-12-2008, 10:54
Merlin Motorsport do custom exhaust bits. I think I need something slightly question mark shaped. I'll go and ask them. Thanks Timmy.:agree:

hmmmmmmmmmm ?

Here's some gash pictures of one of my old 5's - with the help of some short straights it was interchangeable from grille to front mounted. Note the shape of the metal pipe over the alternator...

Cheers mate. I'm not going to try again today as it is pi**ing me off just thinking about it. I'm waiting for Spencer to get online as he has done it with the pipes I have and has Pics etc. Oh well, probably too cold for a front mount anyway :wasntme:
I'll wait. Gonna fit my standard brakes and Speedlines instead. What can go wrong with that......:crap:

Sy5GTT
31-12-2008, 11:57
Been looking at the temp site and Spencer say's 2 45 deg elbows will get around the alt. Is there alot of difference in length between samco and sfs?
