Hi, I currently have 17 inch oz super leggras on the 5. But when I take it to the pod I was looking for some advice of a different wheel to put on to give me a quicker time.
Also what type of slicks work best... Hard soft?
Cheers scott
You need proper drag radials on the drag strip, mickey thompson, M&H etc

Proper drag slicks are the only slicks you want to use at the drag strip
The big power boys run around 22-24.5" tall tyres on 13" rims but if you only doing it occasionally then I would use some smaller 20" tyres that fit on 14" rims. Many of us use to use these years ago before buying bigger tyres and they worked well, helped a lot of people into the 12's

If you can I would also work out the correct tire size you need for your personal gear ratios/ final drive, you don't want to be crossing the line in fifth or just changed in to fourth, this handy gear calculator will help.

Thanks for the reply guys...
Is the link above what your talking about.
I take it 20 is the height 8 is the width and the 14 is the size??
If the 8 is the width, do these fit on lowered 5's
If I'm talking crap please excuse me. :)

Get a pair of renault 14" steelies, i think laguna or earlier clios have 14". Cheap as chips from scrapyard

So you can fit the 8 inch width tyre on those? I didn't think they were that wide?
Yeah i think 8" will mount on them, some of the lads used to run the 8" back in the day

So still on the alloys... I take it then you need to get the alloy wheel cut and an insert added to take the extra tyre width as I just can't see how you fit 8 inch wheels on a smaller width rim??
Any help on this is appreciated.
I'd rather invest my money once on this project :)
They will fit fine on laguna steelies trust me;) i think they are 6j

im using 10j tyres on 5.1/2j rims~13" there not drag tryes they are track tyres but are treated with grip juice they have masive grip of the line and they get taller as they get faster. 8 to 10 psi puts a big foot print down

Hey guys... The tyres aren't prolific as mentioned earlier in the thread but what do you guys think
Or should I just get the 20 inch 6j from the other link and some steelees as already advised?
Those won't do the job, not on the drag strip anyway, take a look at the ones ron's got for sale above they were on the money for a second hand set, expect to pay upwards of 300 for new ones:)
