jacking points

How hard is it to remove a jacking point? Does the chassis need them for strength or are they purely there to jack the car up?

I think you just drill the spot welds out, not sure as for chassis strength although its a monocoque shell. Does it need replacing as its rusted? you can still buy jacking points ;)

I have welded a plate over the rust hole in it for now to get it through the mot but I would like to do it properly when I have the time and replace both sides with new ones. I assumes it would just be spot welded but thought of ask. Cheers matey.
