Just been to my local euro car parts and when they typed my reg in there was two options.. one was a 75w 90 and one was a 75w 80 high performance. I believe the recommended oil is 75w 90 but was just wondering if there's much difference? would i be better using a triple qx 75w 90 or a Valvoline high performance 75w 80? thanks

Here's a pic of the oil

From memory 75-90 fully synthetic. I picked up some Triple QX stuff from either GSF or Euro Car Parts on Ebay quite cheap. I think it was 20 odd quid for 5 litres. Try a search on the boards as i'm sure its been asked a few times and there will be some other recommendations.

Ok that's what I just bought. The pipe coming from the top of the gear box (about 4 inches long and has a plug in the top) is where you put the oil right? Thanks

That sounds like the breather. Look under where the clutch cable fixes onto the box on the front side of the car. There should be a plastic or metal filler bolt under there. I've got a box in front of me now if you need a picture at all but it should be in the Haynes manual. If I remember depending on a plastic or metal filler will dictate how much oil the box holds, again in the Haynes I think. If the cars in one piece it's a bugger to fill in my opinion but the oil smells lovely :sad2: and the smell on your hands will last for days !!. Definitely stick some gloves on as it stinks.

Ah makes a lot of sense. Haven't got a Hayes manual to hand (in the loft with all my other 5 stuff) I didn't realise that was the filler mines plastic. Is the drain plug next the where the linkage joins the box? Thank

Yes, pretty much inline with where the the linkage joins onto the arm coming out of the box. It's pretty easy to spot as it looks different to the other bolts, it's got a big hole in the middle.

That looks like it. Remember the drain will always be at the lowest point.

yes that is the drain bolt in your picture. like said fill hole is normally plastic type bolt half way up the box just under where the clutch cable runs on front side of box.

I just push abit of correct size hose into it and route it to top and fill with a funnel into hose
