Boiling battery, weird electrical problems etc..

Hey chaps,

Bit of a weird one with the 5.

The battery light will be off whilst idling but as soon as the rev's pick up the light will come on. There is also a weird rotten egg type smell in the car as well as it seems all electrical parts are going overtime.

The windows will also go up real fast, the wipers on the first setting are like they are on the the top one (again really quick). The fans are also weird as they can be on full blast but upon acceleration they go into overtime.

AND... When I opened the bonnet after the returning home from work their was a boiling kind of noise coming from the battery and it the plastic of the battery was pretty warm.

So, any idea's?
I've checked all the alternators connections and nothing is loose...

Not sure what it is...

Ah, is this a simple fix Tony? Where would I find it? Is it in the alternator itself?

yeah, not sure if/where there available, i seem to remember someone linking a website.
New alternator or new regulator/diode pack/brush unit thingy lol

Sounds like overcharging as stated.
Put a volt meter across your battery with the engine running.
Should be hi 13's to low 14's.

Thanks for the replies. I will check the voltage going across the battery in the morning. Do we know where the regulator is though? Is it part of the alternator or is it something else?

Its on top of the alternator. Small unit with a plastic casing.

Just seen how cheap the regs are, this may fit?

I had this on my Clio, the alternator was putting out 18v on idle.

Sorted out my slow windows a treat though!
