Hi a knocking has developed on my engine, it seems rev specific.
Done the usual listening with a screwdriver and top end seems ok as does bottom end.
I removed the timing chain cover to see if anything was a miss in there the tensioner seems fine but the ooppositeside seems a bit baggy.

Anyway here is a video, is this normal?
Cheers!

Pretty sure it should be under more tension than that, having said that the chain will be tensioned more when the engine is running since it's oil pressure that pushes the tensioner into the chain

The chain seems pretty loose, try changing the tensioner

Ok thanks for the input guys. I will buy a new chain and tensioner and see how it is after that.

The way to check is move the crank so the slack is on the tensioner side and see how far the tensioner moves out.

Ok just had another look, I moved the crank clockwise manually the slack does come out but the tensioner doesn't seem to move much at all from its fully retracted position maybe only 3-4mm. Whilst moving the crank round the tensioner can be pushed back very easily, is this just because there is not enough pressure to make it feel firm?

tensioner should have a spring inside... either the springs snapped(ive seen alot on corsas but not 5s) or its not been fitted in the first place? or the tensioners sticking/tight/seized.... either way best bet is to fit a new tensioner and a new chain while our at it.

Takes ages to find the spring. Its like a big red button you just have to press.
