Hi guys

Not happy with my callipers especially the rears

Is it easy to strip them?

Or buy new?

Or dose any body do them already re furbed?

Iv snapped one nipple in the rear and now its started sticking..

Think I've got to do the same with mine as both nipples have been snapped off and was thinking while I replace the nipples why not refurb them too :) I found cgb does the nipples and seal kits and pistons too :) also he sells the refurbed item too :)

Are the 106 and clios the same? Says so on eBay.. Might just be worth trawling the scarappers?

I went to my local factors but he couldn't get calipers for the rear of my 5 any one know what year and model of another car is the same? Says they will be about £58 exchange.. Each!! Sound about right? Must be plenty in the scrap yard fr

Clios, saxos, 106 possible 306 and many others share the same rears as a 5.
If you do go to a scrappy then check you can undo the nipple first as they are prone to snapping.

I really want new but the dude asked for a year and model of the above so he could compare.. Is £58 a side about right? To be honest the brakes have been playing up for a while iv snapped one nipple and the other sides now sticking so when I change to the b18 I'm re doing all my brakes aswell.

Just pull a reg number from an ebay advert.
If you wanted a Saxo vtr reg number use W901ACK.

That price doesn't sound too bad for new. I'm sure they used to be much more.

Has the hand brake mech just seized? Does the arm actuate and does the piston wind back freely? Could just need a clean and re-grease along with the slide pins. Take off the boot, free it up (if stuck) and re-grease. Clean and re-grease the pins at the same time. Worth a punt before you start throwing "new" parts at it :)

If you wanna refurb, strip the callipers 1st to see if they are serviceable (no corrosion in the piston bores etc) and if ok try and find a local engineering shop that can sort the nipples. More could sheer off.

Big red may be cheaper for the seal kits:

Pistons will probably clean up with autosol so only replace if badly worn (pitted / corroded). Air line helps to remove the pistons (mind your fingers!) or use a grease gun (messy) or calliper piston pliers.

Will probably need new hand brake cables as the collar on the rear are tricky to punch out without damaging the cables.
