Hi all. With the car idleing. I have no brake pedal. Just sinks. But if I pump quickly it gets firmer but causes engine to die? And afrs shoot to 16 then dies?

Any thoughts

Elliott

Brake Servo?
Start the car with the brake pedal pressed down an see if it goes down a bit further as soon as the engine starts.

Tried the method in the Haynes manual to reset the servo.
Hope your servo hasn't died.

Sounds like the classic one way valve in the inlet manifold. Should be two, one goes to the brake servo. Take it out and give it a suck and blow, should only go one way, if both that's your problem

was ok before, and you havnt replaced any of those pipes though have you ellz?

Sounds like the servo is working ok but the mastercylinder has failed or you have a leak. The engine will become upset if you rapidly press the pedal thats normal.

Will give it ago tomorrow. Would this cause it to make the engine die?

Pumping the pedal can make the engine conk out. If the pedal is ****e though it will definitely be a fault with the brakes. If the servo wasnt working properly you should still have a pedal?

Ok, yh it's solid then when it starts it just sinks. Then goes real soft. Will have a good look tomorrow and check the valve.

M.o.t on sat. Looks like ill have to re book :(

Ah might be a servo or one way valve fault - from what you had described it sounded like no brake pedal at all.

With engine off. I have a firm brake pedal. Start it up then I have no brake pedal. Just sinks.

Hoping its this valve. And not a brake servo.

Rite. Checked the one way valve on manifold. And that only allows air one way,

Can someone tell me why when I push the brake pedal it makes the afr shoot up?

Like its pushing air into the carb/engine?

If I pump quick. The pedal becomes harder. Then if I leave it pressed down. I can feel it slowly sinking.

Found it. Pushed car out and noticed a nice puddle on the floor of brake fluid :@. Brake line split.

Id change the m/c aswell mate its pretty cheap. Thought it would be a leak

I have changed the two pipes that go from master cylinder to rear brake valve, also changed one that goes from calliper to my braided hose,

Unfortunately one bleed nipple was already snapped off. And I snapped the other. :(

So I have managed to get fluid out if the 10mm that goes into the calliper.

Brake pedal is rear firm when engine is off. How it should be.

But as soon as engine has started it just sinks and is the same as first post

Back to square one again :@

Have you changed them both? I would, they are pennies from Mike.

Also bleeding from the flexi is a bad idea, get a second hand calliper or recon one asap

Need both callipers then :(

Also I only checked the one way valve on back of mani. And that was fine. I shall try n check the other end see how hat is.

As al said you will struggle to bleed via the flexi hose mate, the system will still have air in. The calipers will probably go again if you drill the nipples out carefully?

Yh I'm bleeding after the flexi bit. But still prob have some air in calliper?

I'm going to try bleed fronts. If no joy then servo?

I'd put money on the one way valves, change them both first as they stick and gum up, testing them doesn't really work and they are pennies new.

Then change calipers ASAP.

Only then consider the M/C, or servo.

Anyone got the 2 one way valves for sale?
