I thought you guys would like to see what we are working on in the workshop at the moment.

You may remember this red cup car. It was driven by Dave Cox to 2nd position in the reunion race. It was then sold and used on trackdays around the country.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t266/samfishy/15271_170594309752061_198182433_n.jpg

The new owner is very keen on the old Harlow Livery that my Dad carried in the championship, so he has asked us to totally recreate it!
It is also in for a total engine rebuild.

Here are some pictures:

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t266/samfishy/227748_190054181139407_873008330_n.jpg

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t266/samfishy/GT%20turbo/DSC_0029.jpg

There is SO MUCH work involved in totally changing the colour of a race car - inside and out, including wheel arches and engine bay! Especially as this is silver, involving a base coat and clear.
Is is such a nice colour though, and really suits the 5.
Since then, we have finished the shell by adding the small amount of blue on the front wing. The rest is all vinyl.

Eventually to look like the 1990 livery:

Thanks :)
I'll keep it updated. It should be finished very soon - it is a priority in the workshop at the moment.

Now the shell is finished it can be re-assembled while the rest of the panels are painted.
The original Harlow car (still owned by the company) came through the workshop recently and also needs the livery reapplied - so they could be both done at the same time!

It will be strange to see two of them next to each other again.

interesting Sam. My cup car as you know was i believe also driven by Dave Cox back in the day ? Mine is RADBOURNE on the turrett but also has "Dave Cox" written in pen on the insides of all the doors, bumpers and trims ?? I know my shell is white inside and the bodykit is blue underneath ?

Its obviously been blown over in later years before Peter Quinn got hold of it. Any info / ideas about it ? I know weve had this conversatio years ago but i cant remember lol

Yeah, all the stickers. There is alot of vinyl on there. You won't be able to see much of my nice silver paintwork in the end
I think you have most already covered Matty? I think our sticker chap has a good chunk on file too.

I believe he will be using it for sprints, hillclimbs and trackdays - so you may end up competing against him! :smokin:

Hey Kris.
Yeah, I remember now... I will ask my Dad whether Dave was also sponsored by Harlow Group, I don't know if he was... but the blue trim suggests the car may have once been...

Not sure if I have shared this before, but it is a nice document...the complete class of 1990:

Another awesome thread Sam :agree:

Deffo keep us updated with this one. It'd be great to see two cars together in the same livery!

Kris, in my 1990 season review dvd (which I think Steve has still got come to think of it), Dave Cox's number 7 car is in the same Radbourne colour scheme as Matt's Rowan car. It was also the car fitted with the in-car camera, so there is some on board footage.

Sam Fish

Thanks, I am really looking forward to seeing it done too. A nostalgic job to have in the workshop.
Your car sounds like it is a bit of a gem Kris, with that kind of history.

Interesting Sam. I have this old pic of Dave Coxs number 7 car. Im struggling to upload it...... Unsure of the date. Im convinced this is my car. Ive looked in detail at the pic and my car still retains a distinctive "metal ringpull" type fire extinguisher on the scuttle. The gold colour of the cage also is under the current paint on mine. I still dont understand the white and blue scheme or the Radbourne 1 stamped on the turrett though....All very confusing :D

Just to mix it up a bit :) From the archive.

Number 7, Dave Cox, in Radbourne colours... I think that confirms it. the trim must have come from something else I guess Kris?

Engine will be completely to Cup spec and boost (apart from the pistons obviously), but I think my Dad spec'ed them because they where not much more than a standard new piston.... I can't remember... or you can't get new pistons anymore?

Will do :agree: We need some footage first - which may have to wait until the engine is run-in at the end of March.
I think the Harlow Motorsport guys want to get theirs out on track, along with this one.
It could be nice to get a magazine article together, and some on-board footage etc.
It all depends on what the owner would like to do with it, but I am sure my Dad would be keen to help wherever possible.

Here is a reminder of how it looked before:
