View Full Version : Is it me or are 5gtt's PROPPER Vanishing?
I know they are getting rare but they really do seem to be dissapearing alarmingly quickly..
Only a couple of years ago you could find plenty on pistonheads at 1-2k and they'd be good motors, but now there aint none :(
My mates looking for one, but he just cant find a goodun...
let alone for the price range above.
Maybe its time to find a RHD one in Europe and import it..
Although i can see that being as difficult as it is over here, and him not speaking no other language other than towie could prove problematic an all :innocent:
I know what you mean! I have a good budget but there just doesn't seem to be many for sale regardless of that :scared:

you will be surprised on how many now are tucked away in garages rather than being used. i rekon most are around the southeast. i know of plenty sitting around doing nothing but no one wants to sell em.
I think the fact Piston Heads now charge to advertise is the reason for there not being many on there.
Most owners are getting there cars welded now days rather than selling on and buying a more solid shell.
1-2k for a good GTT days are long gone scrapers seem to sell for 1k on Egay.
For me even a 4k offer wouldn't get me interested in selling.
I've got up to £5k for the right car. There just doesn't seem to be many for sale :crap:
I'm hoping to get something pretty decent for that sort of money

South east does seem to hold a few...
Its the price's though when they do come up, irish one's are quite common, but just none worth a punt on uk soil i can see.
Im Just hoping i'll pass a lone one sat on a drive, that some old boy's had for 20yrs, cant drive it so he only wants £500 to be rid :agree:

Not what i wanted to hear
Will be worth decent money soon hopefully. Keep mine in the garage until then:laugh:
Same for a lot of 80/90's cars. When was the last time you seen an astra gte on the road, uno turbo etc. When they all were all at rock bottom prices and more or less disposable cars they just disappeared when a minor amount of work was needed to keep them on the road..
I sold my GTT in 1995ish and then completely dropped away from the scene. It was only about 2010 that I thought about trying to find one again to mess around with, maybe spend some time doing up.
To be honest, I hadn't seen one on the road for many years. I think the last time I actually saw one was back in the early 00's.
I'm so glad I found this place and the Facebook group because without them I still don't think I would have found another 5.

there is an astra gte near and my next door neibour has a series 1 and 2 rs escort turbo . then 3 roads away there are 3 siera 3dr cosworths . theres a family that are into mini round my way too they have a lancia gen 2 delta and x2 metro turbos and a few other cars. my pal lives 5 roads away he has a 205 gti , rs turbo and and a clio trophy :D theres alot of 80/90s stuff around southend area . just will neva be for sale as they have owned them years.
5,s arnt rare and don't think they ever will be in our lifetimes there just hidden away.

I've been on the look out for an Uno turbo for almost 3 years now.
This is the best i have seen for sale for along time, but well overpriced imo.

And even that needs money spending on it. Trying to get parts for them is an absolute nightmare.
I think most of the Mk1's rotted away, there's plenty of Mk2's about but i never liked those.

God that's a good looking Uno have such a soft spot for the mk1's almost bought one rather than my first GTT back in 99.
Think my mate had a mint interior in his loft for a mk1 turbo.

My first turbo car was a white Mk1 uno. Absolutely loved it, but back then it was easier to get a R5 faster so i played with those instead for a few years.

I agree with Westy- There are loads scattered around Mike/CGB probably have
60 plus between them.
Finding a good one with sound body and mechanicals is probably a different story.
Its like any car- take the Mk1 Escort, everyone had one in the day and they can fetch over 10K nowadays. It's just the way it is.
Price will only be going upwards mate

Just think knowing what we do now the UNO had so much potential. Cross flow, efi or even a coupe 20v turbo swap. :smokin:

i think generally an mot'd possibly bit of tax car is usually worth atleast £500 no matter what it is. so its dificult to find anything much under that as you can get scrap value around the £100-200 mark.

Ohhh yeah... It will be out in 2014

I'm  at all this talk of Uno Turbo's. back in the day when I had my first Raider my two best mates had the alternatives. One a 205 Gti 1.9 and the Other an Uno Turbo.
The Uno was always faster when you got to licence losing speeds, but I had the measure of him before then.
The mate who had the Uno turbo has just recently managed to find a MINT shell as part of a rebuild project some guy started years ago and is now In the progress of rebuilding it. I can safely say that it will be the best MK1 Uno Turbo in the UK when it's finished. He got it with a load of genuine new spares!
Logg, serif your mate still has that interior?? I may know someone who wants it!? ;)

Be great to see a pic of the uno when done, parts must be harder to source for uno turbo's compared to 5's although they probably have some of the same that base models do :coffee:
I've had my GT turbo tucked away in a garage for the last 3 years, should be getting it back on the road this year though :)
