Looks like Penfold's car, when Ricardo owned it. 180hp/180lb rings a bell.

that would be called compressor stall. happens when you increase the boost. im unsure at what boost the comp starts to stall? maybe penfold can tell you what boost pressure he's running!

It's just the sound of the boost coming back out through the compressor. It happens at standard boost levels, it's just muted by the oe airbox.

Yeh no dump valve on the white one, its running 18psi and has a green air filter instead of the OE air filter.

Does sound very nice i must admit.

I have a dump valve on my grey 5 which is also running 18psi...

So i have the best of both world's... DV & compressor stall :D

i really like chatter, but what worries me is the idea of a compressor wheel stalling, surely this is not a good thing. ? could any body advance on this ?

it doesn't have anything to do with chatter, it's stall or surge. note that stall does not mean stop, the compressor does not stop, but it still isn't a healthy state to be in when it makes that noise. those short periods of surge won't do it any harm though.
