Bit of a refresher for the old grey matter please chaps...

I know you can get both types of caliper for the GTT, but are there any physical differences between the 2?

More so the rear calipers I'm referring to.

Reason I ask, is that I've just tried fitting up a set of 7x15" Azev A's, ET35 offset to Whitey, and the spokes are catching on the rear calipers :crap: The fronts fit fine for reference.

I've ran several sets of ET35 alloys over the years (TSW Hockenheim, Speedline Chrono, Clio Willy) and none have ever caught, so not sure why these Azev's are on Whitey?

Only thing I can think of is that perhaps the rear calipers are different to what was fitted on my old Raider/previous white GTT, but, from memory, they don't look any different?

Pretty sure rears are all the same. It's the front that differ.

Ok, thanks.

That bolloxes that theory then :D

I don't understand why these don't fit on the rears then? :crap: Unless the spokes are too deep, whereby spacers are required regardless.

I don't remember 48 saying he ran spacers though when he had Azev's fitted on his old red 5, and likewise Alex (Supersonic) with his ph1.

I won't be either, so looks like these will be going up for sale...

yup, only the fronts differ slightly, rears are the same :)

Thanks mate :)

That's that then :(

It makes no sense why they don't fit though...

think me and stu had issues on the track 5lag easily cured withe angle grinder if you look closely where the wheel catches

Was round dangerous Daves earlier and his 5 was on Azevs and I don't think is had spacers.
I'm pretty sure all rears are the same and fronts differ. Could you not grind a little off the caliper?

My old blades used to catch on the front caliper, nothing a grinder couldn't fix.

That's just it; it catches by a fair bit. If I tighten the wheel bolts, there's an easy 10mm gap between the back of the wheel & brake disc - That's how much the caliper is stopping the wheel from fitting by!

I'd have to grind a stupid amount off the calipers, or fit a suitably sized spacer - Not gonna happen.

Just don't understand, unless these aren't ET35 after all...

I noticed on the outside of his wheels it has all the size jargon printed on them, do yours definatly say et35?

I'm sure dogsh1t will be along to confirm his et shortly.

Mine are 7.5j, I need a spigot, no spacer..

I don't have bags of room behind the spokes but they are clearing no problem for me..

Wheels possibly been machined down? Worth checking. :)

Defo stamped ET35.

Goobs, that's a fair call. I'll measure up tomo...

i had a similar problem with a 172 once (same caliper, similar setup) wheels came off one 172 but hit on rear calipers on another....

With new brake pads the caliper sat further out and hit the wheels, half worn pads... No problem

Just had it confirmed from the person I got them from - Spacers required on the rears :crap:

Found that sometimes the rear carriers on the outer part has a casting rib on them, not common to the r5 but carried over from the r19 valvers. These carriers are interchangeable, so have found a few on the 5s, i just ground the rib off to clear the wheels if i come across this issue.

I'd happily grind the calipers, but as above, there's a ~10mm gap, and that's a bit too much to grind down.

But if anyone's got an old rusty caliper they no longer need, I'll happily use that as a guinea pig to see how much actually needs be to be taken off...

From memory the casting ridge on the r19 valver carrier is about 8mm, could be your issue if there fitted.

U just after the rear pad carrier ?

Yeah Matt, just a carrier for test grinding.

Ive got a box full of rear calipers, dare say i can dig out a couple of frames if you want to remove some material..thinking out loud you could remove 5-6mm off caliper and run a small spacer.
