Chaps, back in the day Toyos were the rubber on the standard 13 inch rims ... what availible and decent now? My 5 have the original rubber on; it's bloody deadly.

As a side, anyone hospital records fan ?

Cheers all

Also, i'm finding it bloody impossible to upload photos !

I think the original rubber choices in 195/55/13 were Michelin MXV (the best), Pirelli and Uniroyal (rubbish IMO).

I don't even think Toyo were about then? You can run 185/60/13 Toyo R888s?....

Uni royal still available, If you don't drive it much, then cheap rubber would do- I run mine on nexens which do the job. Best to ask a local independent tyre company.

All down to personal preference really, and depends on what you use your car for mate. All tyres have to meet safety standards.

Toyo r888 or yokohama a048 are my weapon of choice, both in 185/60/13.

If you want your gtt to corner reasonably well steer clear of uniroyal & pirelli in the o.e size. Ive had some brown pants moments in my tungy with the uniroyals at relatively low speeds

I have to agree; the Pirelli (P6000 I think?) are not a great tyre in 195/55/13 size

p600 - even earlier tread than the current p6000's that are crap aswell.

On standard 13's iv had p600's, some old conti's that came on it, and some uniroyals - none stand out to be any better but the only ones from new where the Uniroyal's as all I could get. Not terrible from new, could be worse, but by no means good

Chaps, many thanks to all for the advice.

Trotted down to the tyre shop this morning; unsurprisingly nothing of anything in stock. The chap,s getting back to me monday and i'll be sure to check back on your advice ... seems the car is still running the original Michelins (which are now terrible).

Many thanks again

It was quite a moment as I was heading sideways into a gravel trap, which is never good. No damage though luckily. Tony on the other hand....... :D

Uniroyals always done me proud on track in old Trusty, and always get my vote :agree:

888's & the such like are always going to be a better tyre, in the same way that a full on set of slicks would be king (on track).

Have to say most, not all, of my gripes with Uniroyals are in wet weather and like Brigsy, I've had a couple of brown pants moments with them that I'd rather not have again.

That said, I have a pair of Nexens on my Subaru WRX and have had a few of the same 'moments' in the wet. Had Bridgestone RE001 before them and they are like night and day!

Just search google for them, can get cheaper then just pay somebody to fit them
