loom runs across the front of the engine then branches out
right next to the oil pipe

this is just behind the passengers side headlight and has the wire with the inline fuse attatched to it? could someone confirm what it is and if it should go to a power or earth

the last black box comes up with the alternator loom and just curious what it is

i am still in the process of stripping things apart before rebuilding so just want to be able to label etc

1st - pictures possibly oil level and oil pressure sender wires

Middle 2 pictures - Fan relay and fuse

Last pictures - Not sure but may be a relocated fog light relay.

thanks for that makes a little sense as someone has kindly put on an oil pressure transducer on the base of the oil pipe for a gauge. where would the oil sender and pressure sender wires go to originally as i do still have a plug connected to the sump ?

the fan relay and fuse is that for the radiator fan? and should the inline fuse wire got to power or earth?

ill do some continuity for fog lights hopefully later see if that comes up trumps

I had the same problem with my loom had been butchard i took it out of the condiate and i was shocked how bad the wireing was so i bought a new loom it was simple to fit and just gave me peace of mind i think its probabley one of the best things you can buy when doing a turbo renault

Jamie8 is local and breaking his gtt, you could save yourself a few problems as his car is a runner with mot, message him with what you need and he can remove it for you, nothing will be new, but it'll be working :)

the pictured loom end is the only bit that is missing so seems alot of work for the sake of about 4 wires and the rest is in good condition just need to figure out where the cut off loom goes so i can extend the wires to the correct place but thank you for the option

PIC 1 - ? :scared:

PIC 2 – [behind the passengers side headlight / under expansion tank] – Original Horn Wiring /Relay :agree:

PIC 3 – [black box comes up with the alternator loom] – Radiator Fan Wiring/Relay (p.s. there should also be another relay/wiring which looks like this tucked behind driver headlight which will be your Anti-prec fan Wiring/Relay :agree:

pic one - the wire branches out half way between the oil filter and the oil pipe mounted to the front of the engine

hope this helps a little

also with the one behind the pax side headlight should the wire with the inline fuse go to power or earth ? many thanks for all the input!

A strong possibility would be at some point there has been a manual switch put in for the fan. Does the fan cut in an out off the thermostatic switch as normal?

I couldn't say I've not had it running yet just stripped it straight away as it was plumbed up wrong so wanted to strip and rebuild first

There was a recall on Phase 1 cars as there was no fuse fitted for the Radiator Fan. If the Fan seized, the wires would get hot and start an electrical fire. I only know this as it happened on my Phase 1 many moons ago and my local Renault dealer at the time (Renault Roundabout - Chiswick) said that it hadn't been done.

Just info but, another possible reason why the inline fuse is fitted?

It's a possibility, not sure if this is a ph1 or ph2 car? The perc fan relay should also have inline fuse but that's on the other side, only relay on the passenger side is the horn relay as mentioned?

As for the rouge wires, is there continuity further back in the loom, either at the fan power or thermo switch? Need to trace them back. Do you have a Haynes and a wiring diagram??

If you're truly stumped, Colin Cook (The Master) is in Bracknell and highly recommended when it comes to 5's.

It's a 1989 (f plate) I'll chase them back at some point this week hopefully I've not really looked into what they are for yet an I do have the Haynes so will have a look at the wiring in that and ident it that way - thanks guys for all your input at least I have a direction to go in!
