First post!

Hi all! I'm Steve, I've decided that I'm of the age to have a project car and where better to start than the car that was the holy grail for people who were 17/18 at the same time as me! I've bought a phase 2 GTT all original bar the wheels and engine mods! essentially i want to keep the looks as standard as poss but provide a bit more poke under the bonnet, nothing silly just fine tuning what the old girl has already got! my plan is to take out the lump completely strip, clean and reassemble with all new gaskets and seals. i haven't done anything like this for YEARS and never anything with a turbo so possibly need some brain pickage en-route or any helpful advice that you see fit to throw my way!

I will get some more pics up this weekend!

Cheers

Steve

We have a meet once a month at lower kings wood in Surrey and another at the ace cafe in wembley.
The next one is this coming Wednesday at surrey. Pop down and see everyone. Don't worry about bringing a 5, no one else does.

Mike who runs gt turbo spares is normally there and will supply anything you need if he's not taking the children swimming.

Welcome, only person to stay away from is a banned member on the site who lives in your area. Goes on eBay as Raider_gtt. More than likely dont know him as dont think he has ever had a 5

Car looks like a great starting point to getting it back to however near as standard as you want to go.

Thanks for the advice, funnily enough seen quite a few bits of his on fleabay! I think he is Swanley from memory.

As for keeping it standard, i mean tidying up the bodywork (a couple of scabs appearing) and sorting out the interior, (may need 2 front seats).

I might have a Dimma kit for sale that came with it if anyone is interested?

I'm not getting drawn into one of your squabbles! It's touch and go whether I can make Wednesday as it's the one night a week that I do normally have something planned but am deadly serious about meeting up!

You might recognise the car, it's got a RTOC sticker already and was owned by a guy called David Hunt from 95 to 10 I believe, if that's any help?

Apart from the body shape I'm nothing of a darts player . Unfortunately it's the one night of the week (apart from weekends) that I see my gf (babysitting issues) and as lovely as I'm sure you all are, I am quite partial to getting my balls wet! :cooter:

Does anyone know anything about 5 alive tuning in hither green s/e London? I've done some looking around and they seem to be the closest performance Renault garage to me? Just wondering if anyone would recommend them or not.

Didn't realise they were still about??

Do they not just break 5's and 11's etc and sell parts?

Apparently not, from what I gather they've moved onto clios and other small cars, but as far as I'm aware its a working garage (I may be wrong) obviously not too many 5s around now and alot I'm guessing are worked on by the owners?

So your parents would appreciate me turning up on their doorstep then? :D Bramley? Is that Guildford way? Do you keep much there? I'm definitely after 2 phase 2 front seats, a couple of bits missing internally and possibly thinking about putting a copper head gasket on it?

Parent's are us to it. Normally people knocking the door asking if any of the R5 Gt Turbos are for sale. :D

I have alot of items in both units. Best to give me a list and I will get it ready when you come down. Have 27 R5 GT turbos at the moment.

27!!!!!!! F*** me! You could have a meet on your own! I will definitely sort out a list for you, it's a project that I'm just starting, I'm gonna get a diagnostic done then make a definitive plan of attack! Are you going to wheels day? If not then its not too far from Guildford so I might pop in at the same time.

Yep, recognise the car (always parked on Edge Hill road in Croydon / Purley - even recognise the speed humps in your photo!)

If you ever get stuck I'm local enough to offer help if needed.

I used to go and see Joe and Alan at 5 alive for spares years back, last time I went the yard was still there but they didn't specialise in 5s anymore, but they still had a huge pile of spares! I'm sure if you rocked up (and they are still there) they would help you out.

Thanks for that, it was parked there but not anymore, that's where my pal lives who used to own it (he's got the silver scooby parked there now). The car at the moment is parked at my parents house in addiscombe but I will be moving it to a garage in Beckenham next week.
If that's still local enough for you then I could probably use all the help I could get!

Ex wife's parents live on Clockhouse and I would want to bump into them or any of the extended family, things would no doubt get messy!
