can anyone please put there finger on this horrible, annoying rattle please. she made this noise since i have owned her. put a new turbo on yesterday, along with the cup mod, (thanks T-tim), and the rattle is still there:cry:. all the noise is coming from the turbo, but surley both turbos can`t be fecked. she is blowing a little where the turbo meets the immediate manifold (which i cannot eliminate completley, even with a s/s gasket) and a little at the downpipe ( going to try sort that in a bit) has anyone heard this rattle before:confused:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0s7uSnUFz0 ...thanks:niceone:

that sounds like your manifold gasket is blowing on one exhaust port :)

I used to have a nasty rattle, it was from the old warm air feed pipe.
I noticed another one yesterday too, checked eveything over, then it turned out to be a Dr.P can with a penny in it :ashamed::dearme:

just tried watching it and got 'video has been removed by the user'

does it sound like this?

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=al_CmOBvCBk&feature=channel_page

i just took the engine/box out and fitted a new clutch, fuel pump, silicone hose and clutch cable and turbo, now have a annoying noise to. Sounds like a rattle/echoey noise coming from the turbo. It never did this before

maybe we have the same problem?

Also went out he other nite in it and it souned like it got noisey from the engine, possible manifold blow? What was the job like to do? are there any signs of a manifold blow, as it seems to boost fine etc.

:smokin:i can put the video back on if you really want to hear it mr gttjames..:) ..but mine sounded a lot worse than that mate, more like a tractor, still not sure if shes fixed yet, waiting on some help to bleed the coolant system. you could also check the clutch bearing, try a stainless steel gasket between turbo and manifold, etc and i think flywheels can become a little noisy aswell if not fitted correctly:scratch:

i thought there was only one way to fit a fly wheel. bleeding the cooling system is easy open the bleed nipples on the top rad hose and on the water pump pipe fill the header tank up and lift it up in the air keep refilling the tank and eventually water will come out the nipples nip them up and fill to the max line. remember to you antifreeze as this also helps against corrosion.

yer mine sounds like a tractor too.

Won't be clutch release bearing as fitted a new one.

Wont be flywheel as havnt touchd it, only changed clutch

I think the clutch bearing thing is the noise my car makes, like a funny squeeky noise that stops when i depress the clutch pedal.

Will it eventually break and if so will the clutch stop working?

That sounds like the noise you get when the restrictors are missing out the t-piece on the breather system. :)

60 01 007 478 - little one
60 01 007 416 - big one

Think they are still available from Renault, or your could try CGB

Somebody will no doubt confirm the part numbers and availability :)

Resistor normally get sucked down the pipe so you dont even know its there! :D

the small one looks like a dust cap with a tiny hole in it, you could probably make one up

Both of mine got sucked down the standard pipes, which probably had something to do with the mashed plastic T piece. I just couldnt keep them in place and the car wouldnt idle properly.

went through my old pipes and had the one inthe top going to the back of carb. So fitted this and hey presto echo from turbo on tickover has gone

but now that noise has gone turns out the manifold is abit noisy, and so is the cam chain:dearme::(

yep. But not looking forward to doing manifold gasket, not sure what chain and tensioner will be like

Kris M

Both not too bad to do, slightly fiddely but not too bad

Whan doing the chain / tensioner, dont forget to put a rag or something in the half moon hole / gap in the side of the sump. When you remove the tensioner the backing plate likes to slip down and end up in your sump ;)

:smokin:rattles sorted, it was the manifold gasket, and i also got the turbo oil feed sorted, thanks to all that helped.....now where going to rag **** out of her...:laugh:

will be looking out for that.

Can you do the manifold gasket just by unbolting from turbo then unbolting from head, or will i have to take carb and bits off?

been looking on parts
is a genuine renault chain worth the extra?
will i need to do tensioner aswell, might just do it while im there
and on gsf the 'headgasket set' is cheaper than the 'prated head gasket' on its own?

Kris M

Go to GSF for the chain and tensioner, yes its best to replace both together

I didnt take my carb off when i replaced mine

i just recently asked about this in this thread (http://www.rtoc.org/boards/showthread.php?t=3429)
