Anyone shed any light on this one?
I'm rebuilding my t 25 tomcat, and everything was going fine till I noticed on the drawings of my t2 - t25 rebuild kit, that there is something called a oil deflector at the top of the exhaust side?
Problem is mine did not have one in??
Anyone seen this before

It's a piece of piss really, but you have to be anal when marking everything up, and the proof is in the pudding, I don't know how long it will last ? Some are still running, some 100 miles!
I've just put it back together in 30 mins

If the turbo was leaking oil, don't expect to fix the issue with a 'service' kit.

The turbo was fine, it was on the way home from the ace cafe meet, I was trundling along about 65, and give a little throttle to over take a truck, and when I came off the go peddle, plooms of smoke out the back,if I just feathered the throttle I could just stop it from smoking,
It's always smoked bad on warm up, then just went away when up to temp, so I think it's been on it way out for a while

Well after the rebuild no change in the plooms of smoke, so the testing starts :crap:
Gunner try a t2 iv got laying round then compression tests etc etc, guttered :dearme:

they charge good money for a reason. it always worth a try but i just couldnt see how a 50quid rebuild kit would work. good effort tho.

I'm thinking its not the turbo mate, leaning towards head gasket

Iv seen the rebuild kits work many times, one of the lads did his and running silly boost for the past 3-4 years no probs.
Not saying its not the turbo, gunner try a different unit tomorrow, but iv got a gut feeling its something more sinister :crap:

I've never ever seen anyone successfully rebuild their own turbo. I told you you wouldn't stop it from leaking oil:)

I get a lot of people phone up and come in to ask us to core balance their own rebuilds, I always refuse because they're a load of ****, and why would we want their poor quality rebuild failing on our balancing machine.

Hi Adam do you do tomcat rebuilds? Of so how much roughly?

Honestly, we don't touch Tomcat turbo's. The wastegates are always worn beyond economic repair. Older turbo's in this day and age are always more expensive to repair than newer frame styles due to wear and cost of parts.

Well dropped the old t 2 on and it stopped smoking !
Thank god, Im new to building turbos, but if I changed all the bits inside with new, what the hell was causing it to leak oil so badly, I did everything text book, was anal with cleaning it in a ultra sonic cleaner ,it was tight when I took it off, even tighter when it went back on,shaft looked clean and smooth, it was in good nick, everywhere?????
