i am just about to strip and rebuild the 1600cc engine in my vw bay window camper, its in my shed next to a few renault 5 spares:smokin:.

while sipping on a :coffee: i look at the engine and look at the spare 5 carb and old turbo.......... you can see where this is going.

remove carb from original inlet manifold fabricate adapter to the renault carb modify exhaust to run the turbo and there in very simple terms i know (oil feeds etc)

it would only be a low psi for a little extra grunt but as the main componets are sat there why not??? :agree::disagree::laugh:

I've seen a few Solex 32dis carbs on ebay that were from or for VW turbo conversions so I would expect there is some knowledge on that conversion on VW forums. I say go for it if your not opening a whole can of worms. My neighbour has a VW T25 with a golf GTI engine and he appreciates the extra power especially on hills. It's not what you would call fast but allows it to keep up better on motorway driving compared to his friends running standard engine vans.

Also there's no adapter needed to get the 32dis on a stock vw inlet manifold. It slips straight on

you can use small spacers at the top of the barrel and where you bolt the head onto lower the compression.

'T' off the oil pressure switch to supply the turbo with oil.

you will have weld a return into the sump though.

No need to lower the compression. It's like 7.9:1 or there abouts. Well below 8:1 anyway.

You can just weld a return to the rocker cover if your turbo sits high enough and it's easier than making up a sump return.

That's what I did anyway.

i need to source a few bits like fuel pump and regulator plus the lump is getting new rings and gaskets then i was gonna go twin carb but think this is the route for me now.

Carbs do sound great on a flat four. I used to run 44 IDFs on a stock 1584cc bus and still use them on my current 2332cc flat four but I'm going for 48s when money allows.
