With the koni group buy going ahead I'm guessing they'll be quite a few of us looking for new bearings, top hats and doughnuts to fit with them.

What's the best prices people have found?

I was thinking this.:agree:

Bigfoot

You looking at standard doughnuts? Can supply these if need be.

Price what looking at is £8 for bearing each.

Think might be wise getting the poly doughnuts as price seems to be quite expensive for standard. Seems they come in a kit with the bearings but looking about same price again for doughnuts on top.

Dale, can you source top hats & the sided mounting plates?

Dale, can you source top hats & the sided mounting plates?

Had a look at the top hats but couldn't see a part number for it. Anyone got an OE number and will see if I can cross ref that over. Not sure what you mean by sided mounting plates though???

Mart

The actual mounting plates that bolt upto the turrets - They're a sided (as in LHS & RHS) item.

Ahh I get you, no wouldn't be able to do those, im sure the top hats were available at one point but need a part number to go against as not on catalogue system

Well I found some other parts for the rubber doughnuts, doesn't help that its in different locations of the catalogue system :ashamed: well can still get pearl ones at about £2 each.

Still no luck with the top hats but will keep looking

The actual mounting plates that bolt upto the turrets - They're a sided (as in LHS & RHS) item.

Think these are no longer available, fairly sure refurb from CGB is your only choice if you need "new" ones.

I had to have my ones welded when one side broke a few years ago!

May be a different situation now though??

Mart
02-01-2013, 16:06
:agree: Aii mate, Renault stopped supplying them ~2005 iirc, hence wondered if Dale could source any alternatives.

I was always led to believe that CGB simply resprays old plates, which, at best, are still gonna be 20 years old...

SCHWARTZ
02-01-2013, 16:29
Cgb just clean and spray. Also they spray both sides black instead of one side silver so when you want a pair they send you two of one side:mad:

Andy M
02-01-2013, 19:20
It does look like CGB only clean and respray them, bit of a rip off really :crap:

If the ones on the car ain't too bad, clean them up when changing and possibly have the cup seam welded to the top plate at the same time for extra strength!

Wasn't someone looking at getting some eccentric mounts suitable for ph2 knocked up by a company that already supplied ph1 types??

Alternatively

*cough* Billy *cough*

was it dunc who had them made last time? £200 and bad a55:smokin:

i think they were coilover only and am i right in saying remove the rubber/poly donuts making for one hell of a harsh ride for most of us..

Good call, maybe get a group buy on other bits required like top mounts, doughnuts, bearings etc when fitting new koni's, possibly lowering springs?! :)

Bigfoot
14-01-2013, 12:08
Ok, can do both doughnuts and top bearings for £20 + delivery, will be ordering in a set for somebody on the club, if anyone is interested let me know and will sort out getting more in.

Mr Raider
14-01-2013, 12:11
Ok, dont want to sound too naive but typically which parts will be shot and need replacing due to age and wear?

Nottswoody
14-01-2013, 12:13
The bearings will Definatley be shot and maybe the rubber mounts too

Bigfoot
14-01-2013, 12:13
Numbers 8, 9, 10, and 27 from the picture on this thread which need to be checked, two can get new the other two just need to make sure its not cracked.

Would they be polyurethane 'do-nuts' or the rubber? The OE GTT ones had the 'bobbles' all the way around. Maybe that was to give them more compliance? Maybe they were a harder rubber and that gave them some small progressiveness and vibration cushioning? Only guessing.

Bigfoot
14-01-2013, 15:16
These will be normal rubber, coming from Pearl so if it goes by how the mounts are they might be quite hard but can get a set in to test first if need be.

Mine are different, being phase 1 parts. But Mike was able to get me top hats and mounts last year. New, genuine Renault parts.
I got some polly doughnuts from ebay to go with them.

gttjames
14-01-2013, 22:19
get some in dale and see what there like, il take a set if all ok - be rude not to fit these at same time as the new koni's :smokin:

what about top hats? Mine seem to push through after 10/15k so just replace them

Bigfoot
15-01-2013, 09:39
Should have 2 in for tomorrow to let you all know what they are like. Got 5 within the company so will get all those over and then order more in if need be. Then the bearings as well once I have numbers.

Mr Raider
15-01-2013, 12:17
Ok suppose best way would be to strip front suspension out and see whats what, however will probably want to be driving it after bad weather has gone so a list of parts to replace/group buy is probably the way forward so can assemble most of the bits for when the koni's arrive ready to swap over

Bigfoot
18-01-2013, 11:03
Ok, well got 2 in from another branch, two different designs, one being like the original with bobbles all way round, rubber is really tough, the other is just a round doughnut and really soft and flexes loads. Will see what the other 3 with in the company are like first before getting them over.

Bigfoot
18-01-2013, 11:23
Sorry bad news, only 1 set of the hard rubber is available within the company and promised them to somebody already. Can try firstline to see if they do that style if more people are interested, but the soft rubber wont be any use to anyone really in my opinion.

If its all the way around then it wont wear like the oe bobble ones do, if you know what i mean?

Bigfoot

If you can see what I mean by them

Good work Dale.

Perhaps people should get the polyurethane ones instead? Can you source those?

If its all the way around then it wont wear like the oe bobble ones do, if you know what i mean? The rubber squashes, so the soft may squash more?

Renault put the bobbled ones on for a reason. They don't do changes like this unless there's a good reasons.

Bigfoot
18-01-2013, 16:55
We cant source polyurethane ones. Main issue I see with the other style is side to side movement as well, there is just no strength in that rubber at all. Firstline do this same style as well.

The polyurethane ones can be found on eBay every now and then but at around £20 a set. Then its around £8 each for bearings I think.

Does anybody know if you can still source no. 19 on this diagram? They are the dust covers for the shocks. Am slowly collecting parts to fit the koni yellows, - only had them 10 months! lol :ashamed:

So far i have the koni kit and new 35mm lowering springs. :D

Take it ill also need new bearings, tophats, rubber doughnuts, possibly topmounts as they are still on the car. Anything else?

I asked the main dealer about the boots, number 19, a few weeks back. They told me no longer available.

Mr Raider
14-10-2013, 21:52
Thanks mate, nightmare! had a look on ebay and there aren't any listed. Must be a part number for them?
