Is there any difference in a phase 1 and phase 2 engine.

Not really

The turbo to sump oil return is a different size. Just something to be aware of but you could always swap the sumps around depending if you need PH1 or 2.

Does'nt have a oil breather on the sump up the block next to the water pump either from memory...

Nope ph1 & 2 have that.

There are only 2 differences and there just between ph1 & 2, most ph1's have a baffled sump and a 15mm oil return from the turbo. The ph2's were never baffled unless it was a cup engine and the oil return was either 15mm or 22mm

Also, and I could be wrong, the inlet manifold is slightly different or the brackets which fit to it are.

valve spring pillars are different. - no valve stem seals on ph1 either.....
