hi all, i ve just bought a set of piston rings from CGB and they differ slightly to the ones on the pistons at present, its obvious that the spring one goes at the bottom but the top to 2 i,m unsure of ? one of the new ones is black and one is silver, the one with the black edge also has a very small reccess can anyone tell me which one is top and which is bottom ????

Pretty sure the ring with the lip goes to the top so that the new rings aren't damaged by the original lip on the liner bores.
i always thought the silver ring goes at the top.....
yes, black notched ring will be no.2. Depending on brand there may be some markings which will face upward. :)
I should add that if you don't see any markings you shouldn't just stick them on either way. the ring will be thicker at the base. You might need to look close or rest the outer edge on a flat surface to see which way it slopes. Having said that standard rings might be parallel, but make sure you check.
it should have coming with fitting instructions! :)
perfect circle and Goetze both have a label telling either 'top' or 'oben' on the ring :)
