Hello, has anyone done renault 5 alpine 1982 manufactured head swap with crossflow onto c1j engine? what kind of problems i can run into doing this kind of swap? Is it worth doing? :scratch:

Andrew did it with good results ,you have to machine a water pump bracket i did for scoff

I think you use an alpine cam so you can run matching dizzy drive. but if your on coil packs I guess there would be no need unless there's a reason to use the alpine oil pump too. :confused:

alpine cam runs the water pump so it needs one end machining off and a bearing fitting into the other end of the block!

That's just speculation.

Wish I knew more about all this as I feel valve size is what holds back the C1J the most after the carb and this would be a great solution.

Whys the alpine cam needed? will the pushrods/followers on the gtt cam not line up with the apline rockers? or is the exhaust inlet lobes in a different position?

The position of the cam lobes are totally different.

So Ashy do you need to use a whole Block and head or cant things be built up in a GTT block? How did yours go in it short life?

I used a gtt block, liners, crank... Gordini cam, pistons & rods, head and rockers etc.

as i see there are one major issue with water pump, to relocate it. as well as custom intake and exhaust manifolds. what about the alpine head thicknes, will we get the same compression ratio as with stock c1j engine head?

Just use the dini pistons as they Are domed, using GTT pistons would drop the cr.

I think that just shows how much stronger the cage is than the shell. :crap:

you'd need to put an oil drain at the back of the rocker cover to allow excess oil to drain away. - the gtt engine tilts back slightly, the gordini lump sits straight.

the c/r of the gordini is about 8.7:1 with the std domed pistons. - as Ashy said, using gtt ones drops the comp ratio considerably.

one thing to remember is you must fit the dizzy drive BEFORE fitting the head - the hole in the head is too small to fit it afterwards.
