View Full Version : Cancer Takes Another Loved One

I know there are a few people on this forum that wont know my partner but i know there are a few that have met her. Marianna was my partner for just over 2 and a half years and came with me on some of the RTOC trips away, curry nights.

2 years ago she was diagnosed with cancer of the thyroid, she had to go though 2 lots of surgery and then a gruelling 6 weeks of radiotherapy. I won't go into detail what effects the radiotherapy had on her but she fought through for months after the effects.

She was given the all clear just before Christmas 2011. Obviously this was great news which gave us the Christmas we longed to enjoy, but the thought of cancer re emerging was always at the back of her mind.

3 months ago for about 3 weeks she couldnt shake off a cough so she went to the doctor who advised a chest X ray immediately.

Sadly, the news was not good, after more scans and biposies Marianna was diagnosed with incurable cancer. A mass had grown in the lung, worse to come was the life expectancy prognosis, she was given only a year to live.

At that moment we compiled a small bucket list, thinking, hoping we could tick them off. Marts wedding next September, Sangliers next June and a trip to Nurburgring were on that list. Her personal to do was a mini trip to Pompei, visit her brothers fishing lake in France, visit her other brother in Cornwall. We didnt think we were being unreasonable, she was given 12 months so why not do these things.

Well, after spending the last 2 weeks in hospital she took a massive turn for the worse after having her 1st cycle of chemotherapy.

Sadly, Marianna passed away yesterday. The fight with cancer for 2 years had finally taken her from us.

My life from now on will never be the same, all i have now are the treasured memories and photographs of our times together which includes the RTOC weekends away. I know some of you met her and will have memories of her in your own little way.

This picture was taken at the stop off point on the mad dash through the Ardenne, this was part of Sanglier 2012. We had just enough time to buy an ice cream, then carry on with the driving back to Florenville.

My birthday in July, Marianna treated me to a day in London, topped off with dinner at Jamie Olivers Barbecoa restaurant next to St Pauls

She absolutely loved this Mini, a car she always wanted so she 'treated' herself. Coupled with her desire for speed i decided to book her an evening trackday at Brands Hatch. I'll admit after giving her the "look for the apex blah blah, watch your speed, it was me who ended up spinning!

Our hearts are broken hearing this news. Myself and Audrey met yourself and Marianna on the France trip this year, we were just saying how much she loved the trip and inparticular the 100mile "race" threw the countryside she was such a lovely lady.
Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with you.

Ric, I know what cancer does to lives. My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 13, that was an odd experience. You never expect such a prominent figure in your life at such an age to be dealt that card, we went through hard times because of it.

I kept my mum but I thought I'd nearly lost her, so my heart goes out to you. If you want to chill in West London and have a drink, give me a shout:)

I'd just like to say a warm, heartfelt thank you to everyone who took the time to read my post and leave a comment. Although it was quite hard for me to type the post out, it was actually the easier option as I knew it would be too hard for me to pick up the phone and make that call to some of you. One person I did speak to this evening was Sukhi as I know he doesn't frequent these boards that often. He and Michelle met Marianna and I a few times.

Cancer is indeed a horrible disease, the way it can make someone go through the pain and suffering, no one deserves to be put through that ordeal.

well worth a thread ricardo. Sounds like a horrible situation but one you two made the most off and glad you have some fond memories. Sorry to hear of your loss. I think most people can relate as cancer is a wide spread which affects alot of people. We have lost my uncle to cancer and that alone was a shock. Thoughts are with you.

:(

She was a caring, loving & thoughtful woman who would do anything for anyone.

She was always prepared to put herself out for everyone else.

People like her are a very rare breed and we're glad to have been able to call her our friend.

I know how fond she became of my little girl. That made Rics call last night that much harder to take.

We will miss her, we will also remember her fondly.

Lots of love,

Me, Michelle, Isobel

Part of my job is to tell people they have cancer. A lot of the time you can be upbeat and hopeful about the outcome but other times you know its hopeless and just a matter of time. I have literally been in tears, when a child asks if they are going to die? you would have to be a heartless b'stard not to. People like Marianna are so unlucky and develop terrible illnesses through no fault of their own and then you have the smokers, who go out of their way to try and give themselves cancer.
Doctors are dangerous people best avoided and THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT AVOIDABLE CAUSE OF CANCER IS SMOKING.
We have lots of nicotine replacement products and even tablets that help you stop. If you smoke set a quit date, talk to your GP, get any help you can and be a NON SMOKER.
There is a neat APP called My Last Cigarette that keeps a running total of how much healthier you are and how much money you have saved.
If you wont do it for yourself do it for those close to you.

Just to say that the service was today, Marianna and I had conversations about how she'd like it to be and feel we gave her everything that she requested. It went absolutely just right, beautiful.

I know that she is in a better place, there is no more suffering for her. Time to hold onto those good memories, a time to try and go forward..... Rest In Peace
