Time to resurrect it.... :)
Mortgage and kids meant something had to give, so the 9 and the Fuego were retired for a while until resource improved and so I could still run the 21.
Well....resource has improved, so out it comes from sabbatical. Four years sat doing nowt....outside on the mostpart (Free storage though!) so it needs some love.
Out comes the lump.

And the box....and in goes a new one.

Clutch hydraulics and Brake Master had seized too so new Brake Master and Clutch Master went in with a new Clutch resovoir as that had split too.

The power steering packed up before it went out of action, we changed the rack and it wasnt that and we didnt know what pump it was.....I still have no idea!

It should be at the National Day next year, I really enjoyed hoofing the 172 there this year and it prompted me to sort out something properly fast.
This will do if the 21 isn't finished :)
Ideally i'd love to show up with the 21, Fuego, 172 and 9 but I haven't mastered multiple-car-driving yet
think i saw this many years ago at mike 48's rolling rd day
Yeah, me to! I think it was the rolling road day in Northampton at a place called "Jam Sport"? That must of been around 2005?! :)

Yeah the idiot running it on the rollers screwed the 'box coming on and off the power repeatedly. Good numbers before it span the wheels, will have to get it retested by someone competent. Wouldn't mine Adaptronic-ing it at some point either.

Braved the weather and cold to make more progress.
Have a brake pedal now, albeit spongy, but thats just some bleeding. One of the back calipers has a broken bleed nipple though :( not too pleased about that!
Ran it the other week and it decided to howl fuel out the back....

Found a better rad.... it had, as it turned out, a 1.1 Fiesta Rad. I found a sturdier one that was fittable from a MK2 Golf GTi 8v, with a bit of pipework extension.

Once the bits of pipe I have ordered arrive I can plumb it in and run it up properly, ready for a test session at Silverstone on the 17th Feb :agree:

New fittings going in, the old lot was held together with some real wierd threads and fittings so I got rid of most of it and used a bunch of RivNuts and M6x1.0 bolts :)

Well chaps it's back in the game after a lot of toil and trouble. Off we went for playtime.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b79/DaveL485/BB20533F-4642-4254-B5DD-9B4F074BC9C5-4215-00000480E488A13A_zps2261d74d.jpg
It's first outing was on six year old remould slicks at the front and worn out road tyres from my 172 at the back, cheap £5 brake pads, I wasnt happy with the brake pedal and limited boost to 1.1 bar as I was on normal super unleaded not (secret mix). So comparatively, a bit more pace to come from the car and definitely more from me once the cobwebs have dusted away.
When I said it was quick though, I meant it....
Fastest on the day:

If I could afford a Quaiffe ATB diff for the box too I could pull even more off that time....but with all the other cars I can't  the next big spend is a GTX3582R for the 21. Second gear out of any corner is a total waste of tyre lol
Couple of shots from the day out, apparently it likes cocking its back leg :hehe:

New tyres ordered, hope they arrive in time for ND!
Got some new orange graphics to add as well, nice cheesy Renault Sport ones for the wings and a big Renault roof sticker :)
See you all in six days if everything goes to plan!

Yeah the drivetrain is good now but it's too fast for itself. I was seriously struggling with the back end being wriggly under braking...I think a brake upgrade and a suspension refresh is on the cards and maybe some ballast in the back LOL
Was only running .9 bar boost yesterday on 99ron fuel. It will run 1.1 happily when the ambient temp is lower and it brakes a bit better, and we have run 1.6bar on 118ron race fuel in the past giving over 300lb/ft torque.
So what i'm saying is....it is a lot faster than you saw yesterday, but needs some tweaking to get there!
