Hi folks found this sight selling sills thought use might be interested at £29 I've just paid twice that
:eek:......thats cheap,anyone know the crack with these? worth a pop?
Damn that is cheap, I was planing on a chopping up a pair of Gtt sills to fix the 9 sills

If there the real deal I'd snap them up before cgb clear there shelves.. I'm pretty sure he'd check there stock level and buy them up to close our options of cheap sills.

I just wish id found them before I bought both sides else where

I got the 2 sides for £110 delivered, from ebay

The going price on eBay seams to be £84 for one side so as above still a good price
Just about to order a set of these so will keep you posted on what they are like, you pay for what you get springs to mind here:cry: but ill have a punt on them :dearme:. Worst case they are thin as fag paper,dont fit properly and last about 5 mins, sounds perfectly in keeping with the 5:wasntme:
I ordered a set a week last tuesday and still no sign of them :(
Sills just turned up, they look fairly good and not overly thin either, haven't fully unpacked them yet as I'm still at work but will take some snaps when I finish

Just got a quick 5 mins to have a peak, they look fairly good, the metal looks if anything thicker than stock items, the primer coat is a bit scratched but that's not a problem.

Looking at this label and how discoloured it is, I'd say they were old stock sat on a shelf in deepest darkest Europe collecting dust till someone found them.

I'd guess 90 % of the never been welded cars need a set of sills/large repair panels now and if they don't get them... Another one bites the dust.
The old stock won't sit in the back of the company long, they will be cleared out and put on eBay at twice the price. Get them now while you can..

Coat the inside of them with weld through coating before you have them put on and red oxide or something similar where the weld doesn't penetrate they will last another 22yrs:agree:

My sills arrived on Thursday and they are fine. I have safely stored them in the attic :)
I agree with additional internal coatings to preserve and keep the dreaded rust at bay but I have also experienced with previous projects, red oxide or similar reacting with paint. I was advised by "classic restoration scotland" that its the best way of preserving a car that you intend to keep for many years, especially if it is driving in salt durin the winter months.
I'm sure someone on here had an issues with red oxide reacting around the windscreen and causing more damage than had been found. Can't remember if the reaction was with paint or windscreen sealant! My suggesting would be to use a rich zinc primer. I have just done my 5 shell prior to reselling all joints after a bare shell rebuild. Cost me £60 for zinc primer and sealant prior to an epoxy chassis paint and stone chip for the undersides
I'm also getting my escort cosworth done the same as we speak.
The last thing we want is to be spending money on keeping the 5 on the road for it to go against us a few years done the road.
If your like me you will only want to do the job once and do it correct the first time
The Weld through primer is a must it's designed to melt and recoat when it is being welded so they will never be any exposed metal, I always used a good quailty Red oxide when I worked in a body centre and never had any trouble, their is so many factors that can cause paint fall out.But any coatin is better than just leaving the phosphate coating.

Ordered myself an offside sill for my 5, passenger side already done so going in my collection of spares for when needed, good price at £43 delivered :)

Stay away from after market bonnets, they dont fit well. See you are after the mat on the bonnet as well, think you can get new but they are not cheap at all, second hand good ones seen them go for up to £100

I've already emailed them about a pair but I've nothing back yet :/
Have been in contact with Darrell who must own national spares as i was having problems with delivery , the sills have arrived but he has reassured me that he has changed couriers and there will be no further problems with delivery , he said he was having a nightmare with the last couriers , (I do live in the countryside so not all their fault probably) I did ask him about any other panels he could get hold of and he said if it isnt on the site then ask and he will see what he can do , he asked about where i heard about him as he knows of a club or something he has had alot of orders from and wondered what was going on :D he seems a nice guy and as before he will help if he can.

Dont forget you will need the special rivets to hold on the sideskirt clips if these are going on a GTT. Those rivets are horribly expensive from Renault but if you need some PM me as I might be able to direct you to some cheaper ones ;)

If go into files and go to technical files and look through ashy 172 turbo project you will see the inner sills or pm ashy ask him for the cad design :)

Mike 16v will have one although not sure his stance on it being copied for the club. He got his from Ashy I think and may have had them replicated.
