View Full Version : Headlight/Front wing alignment

I have been doing a bit more work on my car preparing for the respray.

When I bought the car many years ago, the drivers side wing was never quite close enough to the headlight and I always wondered why, whereas the passenger side wing fitted perfectly.

I had a bit of a look today and I found that the drivers side inner wing has a sort of mounting point that the passenger side does not have. So it seems that this bracket is pushing the wing out of position.

This is the passenger side without the bracket

And this is the drivers side with the bracket, its got the red sticky residue on it

So what is peoples thoughts on this? What side is correct??

And will removing the bracket allow me to fit my drivers side wing perfectly and in alignment?

Thanks in advance

That looks about right, mines the same. it must be down to something else the reason why its not aligning

Genuine/factory wing vs patened part maybe?

Replaced one of my wings with a non-genuine part and doesn't quite sit right........

I expect that bracket is there to stop water from the front going into the anti percolation fan air intake.

Has it had a bump across the front somewhere?

Ian- that makes total sense as to why that bracket is on that side.

Trev - I thought the same re a knock. I have had a look at the crossmember etc and it all looks pretty straight with no folds, creases or signs of damage.

I have dug a spare wing out of my loft and so I will trial fit that later today. Maybe that will make a difference??

Wallace- the wing I took off was not genuine Renault. It still had a sticker inside.

The one I am trial fitting is genuine Renault- so fingers crossed....

A rehash of an old thread of mine but I had a play with the 5 today and I have managed to line both wings and the bonnet up to a more than acceptable standard :)

It even sits pretty tight on the headlights so I am happy. Just need to fix them properly now.

At last - my 5 will have all of its panels back on :agree:

So it seems that the genuine wings did the trick.
