Hi guys, may have a problem with the middle section of my exhaust ground clearance after fitting a bms downpipe. The minimum clearance is about 3 inch and that's at the front end of the car.Its a scorpion system.Would I struggle on the rollers with it like this? Not really sure of the best way to get round it.Higher the car, alter the downpipe or the exhaust,or is it possible to use a center section off another system.thanks

Just had another thought,I need to fit the downpipe/exhaust bracket, the one that bolts to the bottom of the block, with the joint been lower,I'm going to have fun fitting it mi thinks.:(

i also have the same problem with mine since fitting my sidey

but!!!!!!!!

i have a scorpion system that has already been cut and welded so it gives loads of clearence with this down pipe and it has the lug for a lamda sensor if your running an afr. (it just sat in the shed if its of use to anyone???

i like the sidey to much to go back

as for clearance at Scoffs heres a pic, hope its of some use, from the bumper to the ground is 13cm the base of my sideskirts are 10cm and my exhaust looks to be around 7cm high. i couldnt get underneath to measure it may be lower than that.

Mine measures 11cm to base of the side skirts and 12cm to the base of the front bumper, likewise couldn't measure exhaust but it looks to be about 7cm,like you said Tony could be less though.

I had issues with this and cut 35mm out of my down pipe. Its better, but still get scuffs every now and then. Might take another 10mm-15mm out at some point.

If the BMS downpipe sits lower than the OE downpipe where it meets the exhaust mid section would I be right in thinking the exhaust bracket on the joint will not line up with the hole on the rear of block to mount it? Anyone had an issue with this?

not had one of them on for many years.

Alot of people don't use them (I never did) no so bad if you are running a standard downpipe or the larger type because there is a bit of give in the joint at the turbo elbow and the lower joint. when using the BMS dpwn pipe I would strongly recommend having some sort of bracket on the exhaust to take the pressure off the welds where it bolts on to the turbo housing.

Any movement of the engine mounts/exhaust mounts through the gears directly applies pressure to these welds and can cause a crack (seen it done on a BMS a few years back), having a bracket on the downpipe will illiminate this.

One of them farty brackets won't take the engine rock. I would leave it.

Ive never had a bracket on my big jim downpipe, simply because it wont fit. Never had a problem, providing your exhaust is not solid mounted its nothing to worry about?

Also 3" clearance isnt too bad if your car is lowered, i wouldnt worry too much. The exhaust may pick up a few battle scars underneath but it wont fall to bits unless your smashing it over every speedbump going;)

All the bracket is for it to support the down pipe and let it rock with the engine and take the pressure from the welds and let the lower joint and springs take all the movement. Another example is when the tubular manifolds crack at the head, this is due to not having any support from the manifold and lower down the system.

I also suppose it depends on how you drive your car and how good all the engine mounts/exhaust rubbers are. Renault must have put a bracket there for somereason otherwise it would never have been fitted.

Renault made all sorts of daft stuff!

What I'm saying is, if you have enough engine rock to snap a weld then it will muller one of them brackets in no time.
