Hi Chaps,

My 5 failed its MOT a few days back with two front ball joints and two rear wheel bearings at fault.

I have since replaced all of these (and they were totally nailed)
BUT, I have noticed that even with new bearings on the rear that the tyres can still rock slightly if you have one hand on the top of the wheel and one on the bottom.

Is this normal or is something more serious screwed up also do you think?

Thanks!
Luke

Mine moves to bud only a little bit one more than the other I think it's fine and it's been like that since the mot.. It's more the rumble of the wheelbearing that fails the mot.. I got paranoid about it for ages but it's fine

What torque have you done the centre nut up to?

well i did mine to 160/180nm - whatever it said on autodate, cant remember now. But i noticed when servicing ti it still felt like abit of play so whipped wheel off and cap and double checked the torque. But play remains, its only minimal

Thanks for the replies guys,

I'll let the MOT guy know that its common on other 5's then I guess and hope he's lenient.

Down to pattern bearings unfortunately, found same issue with lots of suppliers, some worse than others. I only buy Renault or BRT bearings now and they have no play when fitted.

BRT are a bearing manufacturer and supplier. Have a trade counter near me that excepts jo public.

Just an idea...
