Mucking about with the van today, found out some interesting things while bored.
The extra hubs have offset lugs so using some gtt discs, gtt calipers and pad carriers I bolted them on....then found out the pads were only covering 2/3rds of the disc, strange... So grabbed some Old 16v Clio discs, fitted them, and they were perfect!

I had 15x7j willy rims on the back of my van with no arch mods, 5mm spacer and 195/45/15 rubber....coupe rims fit but you will need to grind the arches back by 5-10mm at the rear.

Thanks for the info brigsy. The f1's are a different offset to the Williams.
Today had 5 mins spare so.....new rear shoes, wheel cylinders and brake fluid change, also got the fronts working a bit better, but will adapt to take bigger stoppers later on, at the same time will change to koni yellows with coilover conversion. I'm popping the speedlines on it for now but will probably put the steels on with a stud conversion kit of mine.
De locking the passenger and rear doors next.

I'm running aftermarket 7x15s on 195 45s with a 5mm spacer on the back of my extra and they fit fine on there.

If you decide to fit the red 5 mirrors to your van, would you sell the grey ones?

Ross

Matt@CodeRedMotorsports
28-09-2012, 08:36
Cool, another reason to run 15"s then;)
The grey mirrors are off a campus, so I think only the passenger one is adjustable?
I'll check to make sure I have the internal trims too if you would like them.

Might fit these and see how the clearances are like. Just for fun.

Staying derv for a while, as its showing 77k miles.
Have a couple of clio/r19 lumps laying about up here. One has spiky cams and bike carbs. The other is still in my old R19 16v.
Probably where the leather seats will come from, plush van seats?? Hehe!

Haven't found the trims for the grey mirrors yet mate, I'll need to have a looksie in the shed next :crap:

Slammed 66
28-09-2012, 19:57
no worries dude. Are the trims not the same as the standard huge mirrors?

Anyway, put finding the trims on hold for another day while you sort that ride height out. ;)

Looks nice on the speedlines, that's the only drawback to a big brake kit. I'm going to have to find some cheap Williams wheels for mine.

Just to revive this thread, anyone know what's under the plastic side trims? Little locator pegs or holes? (And rust:laugh:)....
Also, do you need a front panel/headlamp bin to use normal r5/gtt headlamps, wings bumper and bonnet etc.

Lewis
12-11-2012, 01:54
I'd imagine there are several holes and metal locating pegs/lugs holding the trim on, the same way the 5 Campus plastic door trims are held on. Of course there may be the odd bit of rust as well!

The best bet for the 5/gtt front end conversion would be Haz, he converted his old blue extra van. I vaguely recall that you need to change the headlamp panel.

Yep under those plastics are lugs and screw holes

To convert the front you would ideally need a complete front panel and the headlight buckets and slam panel are different, then you will need the wings, bonnet and bumper :agree:

Matt@CodeRedMotorsports
12-11-2012, 17:31
Cheers mark, I have the wings, bumper, bonnet and body kit from my gtt but no front panel for the headlamps, so will leave alone I think, then sell off the last gtt parts..... Shame as it would look quite good I reckon.
I know there was a pink extra van a while ago with full gtt kit, always like the look of it (apart from the colour!!).

Matt please tell me your putting the Ferrari stickers back on??

Matt@CodeRedMotorsports
25-09-2013, 11:07
The one with the Ferrari livery was used in the film as the Niki Lauda support vehicle and was sold recently. It's an R2136. So low roof and swb.
Mine is an ex fire engine R2137, so high roof and lwb from the south of France, shows around 47 k miles and I have enough spare panels and mechanicals to rebuild the thing 3 times over.
It also has a 'test'/mot until 2016 as it's every 5 years in France for older vehicles.
Will be doing the 'mig dance' next month.

Well we braved the storm yesterday morning to go and collect the little red van.
In fact we followed the bloody storm all the way to our destination just south of Arras, about an hour from the channel tunnel.
Luckily the estafette had already been loaded with all the new and fragile parts .
Then we had the task of emptying the various sheds and mini workshops at the sellers property.
We brimmed the hitop transits with parts... Did all the essential stuff and as usual, in the typical French way had a glass of red and signed the paperwork.
The old chap was getting a bit choked up, and I told them I would email his son some photos of the restoration. Which cheered him up and meant more red wine.....
Then Tom the driver (doesn't drink) headed for the road home.... Flat out at 55 mph, his look was priceless, 'there's some weight in here mate' he said though the medium of eyes like dinner plates on the autoroute...
At uk border control they wanted to look in the van to see what was in there....so had to unlock the two vans, they peeped inside and through the medium of eyes that said 'jeez, I'm not going through that lot' said 'yep, that's fine'....

Bit of a revelation yesterday.
I started to remove some of the bits from the red van (been a bit busy recently to un pack it) under a couple of boxes containing brand new doors, a set of snow tyres with metal studs and all new seat coverings I found another rear axle assembly (brings the total up to 3 of those now) and..........
A rebuilt engine/gearbox on a newly refurbed front subframe assembly......no wonder she was sitting a bit low:scratch:

In the smaller boxes were new unopened shock absorbers, complete sets of door rubbers, boxes of seals and dust covers for the wheel cylinders.....

I think I have now become the south east dealer for Renault Estafette parts.....:smokin:

Will be looking into a custom exhaust manifold, as I feel my one needs c1j power, as if I fit the standard c1j turbo manifold the turbo would sit on top of the steering box rods....:(
Apart from that and a bit of special plumbing I can't see why it wouldn't go in the hole in the front of the van.
